I honestly think one more win will be enough although you’d obviously want a few more points just to be sure.
Our goal difference is almost worth an extra point as we are +10 better than most of the teams at the bottom.
One more win takes us to 40 with a much superior goal difference than most down there, I reckon all this talk of 42 will prove to be false, I think the “magic 40 barrier” will be enough again.

Stoke will secure safety and wreck Arsenals title chances with a 2-0 home win against them ;D

I'll take a wild stab and say our home matches will be LWLW and our away matches will be LDWL, in which case it'd be 10 points. Sorted!

Well, we shoudl definately get another 3 points at home so thats 40.
Then we're likely pick up the odd point here and there in the games that we're expected to lose.
So long as we sort out the away performances we should be fine. But i wouldn't like to see us losing 4 more away.

I expect 6-8 points at home, and maybe 1-3 away

The way in which we play I would never rule us out to beat Arsenal and Chelsea.
At the same time we're still capable of losing at home to Wolves and Wigan.
I think we'll get 6 points from our remaining 4 home games. We need to also pick up 3 points from one of the away games but Spurs, Villa and Citeh are not the easiest of grounds to go and get three points as we all know.
I think 9 points will almost certainly see us being safe. 6 points (putting us on 43 pts) still might not be enough.
I'm confident we can get 9 points from our remaining fixtures.

PS - And i'm a firm believer in the 42 point mark this season. Wigan and Brum, not so sure, but i think Wolves will get over 40 points, as will West Ham. Also, if we do only get to 40 points then our goal difference would have been destroyed by having lost 7 out of 8 games (or 5/8 with 3 draws).

41 points will be enough easily and we'll get that against wigan and wolves, probably only get 2 points away from home though against villa and blackpool, our away form really has bin the most disappointing thing about this season to be fair.

The only ones I'd say I'd back us to lose are Spurs and Man C though I'd say we matchup quite well against Man City. I'd fancy us to beat Wigan and Wolves possibly get draws V Chelsea and more likely Arsenal who are stuttering somewhat. I could see us getting a draw V Villa though they can't keep playing so badly and Blackpool if things go our way luck wise and against them I could see us beating as they seem to do better away than at home.

On the other hand if we pick up 48 points we should finish in the top half.. based on the current table. 51/52 points should see us finish 7th or 8th. Catching Liverpool in 6th might be pushing it a bit.
11 pts - Top Half 15 pts - 7/8th place
Looking at the fixtures (and our away form) i'd say that we will do well to get 11 more points.
I think we'll finish on 46 points.

Can we get 6 points from eight games? Yes, we can get them from two. As for will we get them, I'm certain of it. What I'm dreading is us beating a team I want to stay up and thus sending them down, e.g. Blackpool and Wolves. And do let's finish it off, well before the final day of the season.

2 years ago 34 points and a goal difference of better than -19 would have meant safety.
Last year 30 points and a goal difference of better than -40 would have kept us up.
Maybe this will be the year when Tone's magic 40 points really will be necessary but I'll be surprised if we need more than that.
Therefore as long as we beat the Arse on May 7th I (probably) won't be too disappointed if we lose all the rest.

Having seen our last 6 away who knows?
However, there isnt a better time to play Spurs who will be between the two biggest games of their history for some time so hopefully their minds will be elsewhere
Villa - we have a chance
Blackpool as well
Man City - out of them all this is the one I cant see us getting owt from

I think we will beat Wolves and Wigan at home + draw to Arsenal. I think Chelsea will beat us.
Then I 'reckon we will get 2 points away, 1 from each of Villa and Blackpool.
It would certainly take a royal fuck up to go down.

Not that I want to put a downer on the thread ... I wasn't going to post to be honest ...
I think the FA semi-final will be the crucial game in our season, in more ways than one.
02/04 - Chelsea (H) - 0 09/04 - Spoz (A) - 0
At this point we might well only be a couple of points - and a couple of places - from the bottom three.
Then we come to the semi-final. If we win, everyone connected with the club will be buzzing and I don't think we'll have a problem achieving league safety.
If, on the other hand, we lose the semi-final - Everyone will be down and I think things could go pear-shaped in the league.
It would be Villa next ... on the 23/04 (depending when Wolves is rescheduled for) ... Probably our best hope of an away win (if Villa have managed 4 points from Everton, Newcastle or Wet Sham).
Both Wigwam and the wankies will be fighting for their lives ... not games you want to have to get something from. And, for completely different reasons, so will Citeh. Cackpool at their place is not somewhere anyone would want to go.
Arse at home is the other game that I think we could win (07/05), but it's another game I think will be affected by how the cup has gone. If we are flat, we won't do it ... if we are still on cloud-nine, then we well might.
I'd bet good money TP dearly wishes we were no where near a Wembley appearance (or that we had the 42 points already in the bag)
Fingers, toes and - at my age - anything else I'm able to cross ... all crossed for 17/04. I think that game/result will define our season.

We want shafting if we don't get two more wins between now and the end of the season, seems like we've come out of our slump in form so we should in theory get the 6pts we need.

many of the lower teams still have to play each other and therefore Im sure 39 pts will be enough. we should get another 9/10 pts.

It's very rare that a team needs 40, but if we take a points average up to now and extend it to the end of the season (which should be reasonably accurate with so many games gone I'd have thought), the bottom 4 will look like this:
40.62 40.53 40.53 38.53
So 41 may well be necessary this year. Either way, if we can't manage another 4 - 6 points this season then I'll accept relegation, we'd fully deserve it.

If we can continue our form from the last 2 games, there is no way we'll get less than 10 in the last 8.

2 great team performances in a row. Some fantastic performances from individual players. We have momentum, and I think, (hope), we'll be at 43 points in no time. C'mon Stoke!!!

We are more than capeable of a point at least from all bar Chelsea Spurs and Citeh.
If we win a couple though then its only natural a few will take their foot off the pedal assuming we have the Cup final to look forward to. Big IF and im fully awear that the semi will be a tight encounter

Generally we're on just over a point a game, so we should end up with another 8 pts in total from our remaining games. Easily safe. The Newcastle victory was a massive step in the right direction. And it's great to hear Fuller has got his head back on.

We have averaged 1.25 points per game thus far. If that continues then we will have 47 points. I think that is entirely possible. The same reasoning suggests that 42 points will be needed to be safe this season.
