There was a bloke in the boothen end used to go with a few of his family members including his elderly mum.
During our regular 4-0 trouncings, he used to chuck his season ticket away every week, then he'd get all emotional when his mum told him off.
It was a pisser in a sad kind of way. ;D
Wasn't me by the way. ???

We were awful that day, nearly as bad as the 0-7 loss to Brum, but having to get a train back to Brizzle full of gasheads taking the piss all the way back made me wanna jump out the window, and yeah there was a pitch invasion, some tried to storm the exec boxes.

For some reason i've been thinking about this game. As usual my memory of any game of nogger isn't 100% sharp due to the nature of the pre match social ;D but i remember stoke getting ripped apart at the brit, bristol rovers were a bloody decent team that day and seemed to cut us open at will down the wings and in the middle. One of the best performances i have seen at the britannia. Just been looking at the two XI's from the game. C. Muggleton, P. Robinson (D. Crowe, 82), B. Small, L. Sigurdsson, N. Mohan, G. Strong, K. Keen, G. Kavanagh, P. Thorne, K. Lightbourne, D. Oldfield T. Williams, D. Pritchard, T. Challis, S. Foster, A. Thomson, A. Tillson, I. Holloway , D. Hillier, G. Penrice, J. Cureton, J. Roberts Crowd 17823. I went this game. Greg strong and Mohan were absolutly wank. bryan small looked quality when he first joined but turned out to be wank. and david oldfield..........

He's up there with the worst players Ive seen in a stoke shirt. Greg Strong we got on a free from bolton i think. He was a big unit and again he was considered abit of a legend because of his name and his apparent strength. Again he was absolutly wank. Horrible Horrible season. Chips in the ground were a quid tho

Yeah we had some dross back then, Oldfield was alright for Leicester but went to utter shite for us, Rovers front 2 were banging them in all over that season so was'nt too suprised to see them tear us a new arsehole.

The Swedish Stokies made their first organised trip to Stoke for this game and we all went on the pitch afterwards.

I went in the JSL for about only the 2nd time for this match, plenty of Rovers fans there for a night game as well, enjoying the occasion as each goal went in

Didnt we manage a mighty 3 all draw with Colchester around the same time as the Bristol Rovers defeat?

Think I was about 7. I remember us scoring first before half time and being 1-0 up at the break. I think I remember thinking that the game was won, and no way could Stoke lose. That 2nd half was fucking horrible

This was THE game that really pissed me off. I went every week and this game took my missis and two kids . We were terrible and when the 4th goal went in was on the car park going home after my kids refused to watch another second. Why do you come and watch that every week my missis asked? Cos im a sucker for punishment i answered. 10 years on ...same question...same answer.

And some people are willing to sacrifice our Premiership status for a Cup win? Christ, we've come a long way because it really was horrible at times in that division.

remember the last away game v TP's Gills side 0:4 (by h/t I think) Muggers saved a penno mind (he was good at that) anway h/t & we we're singing "4.0 & we're worse at home" to the tune of go west. sad thing was it was true. Gills fans aprox 2 yards away didnt even bother goading us,just looked on us with pity.
strangely we won the last game at home v Walsall when Little threw the kids & Walsall fans en masse (is that a contradiction in terms?....) spolied the minutes silence for Macari's son. Walsall already promoted & you could almost visibly see their players think 'bugger,we dont need this' as the Stoke fans erupted in fury at Walsall raher than our own side.

Funny that...The North Stand tend to forget it was just plain old North Stand until it got changed, wasn't it done as a sponsorship from some Media firm? I think some mobile communications company called Genesis sponsored the North Stand so it got renamed as "The Genesis Communications Boothen End". Once the sponsorship deal ran out, or Genesis went bust, the club just kept it as "The Boothen End" Yes, didnt Phil Collins open it officially??

David Oldfield should've considered himself lucky to not have his contract terminated after this match, bet he still got a 6 out of 10 in The Sentinel. Remember Cureton scoring a cheeky lob for one of the goals; and remember everyone singing Sack the Board immediately after. Puts things into perspective this does, Strong & Robinson are definately a pair for the "Forgotten Players of Recent Times" thread

Chips in the ground were a quid tho Thank you! I'm so glad someone shares my opinion re. Oldfield, I thought I was alone. Was only about 11 this season so had convinced myself that my memory was being a bit selective with how bad he actually was, especially as my mates seem to remember him being average. I'm still convinced he was less use than a fucking inflatable dartboard, always considered the twat to be the worst Stoke player I've ever seen. Bollocks to Keith Scott.

Yes an awful season but strangely contains two of my favourite away days the 4-3 win at Preston and the 3-2 win at Wigan. At the Preston game we was 3-1 down with 20 minutes left, and at Wigan 2-0 down with 15 minutes left.

That 2-0 defeat at Millwall too when they had 9 men. Could be wrong but didn't they go down to 9 men at 0-0 too? Shocking day.

I remember a 3-1 home loss to Northampton a couple of years later. Kristianson let a 40yarder through his legs. It is memories like these that prevent me from ever becoming a PHW.
