After the game Pulis went into the whu dressing room congratulate BA that's a strange thing to do what did he say well done for playing well and scoring again? ;D www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/football/west-ham/dynamite_demba_is_so_much_more_than_the_new_ilan_for_hammers_1_822347Last season it was Brazilian striker Ilan who grabbed four goals to haul West Ham out of the relegation zone, this time round it is Demba Ba, but the comparisons between the two end right there. While Ilan struggled to prove himself in the Premier League and was ultimately discarded at the end of the campaign, the Senegal international has made a magnificent start to his West Ham career with four goals in just five games. The 25-year-old was at it again on Saturday, scoring the opener in the 3-0 win over Stoke City and he confessed that he is loving every minute in the Premier League. “It is even better than I thought it would be,” said Ba. “I always looked at the Premier league on TV and I knew what I could do if I came here. “I am just working hard to get fitness and to get strength, because it is a lot about strength and I am just going to keep on working and giving my best every Saturday.” It is a lot about strength and Ba seems to have it in abundance. He held off the strong-arm tactic of Marc Wilson to force the ball over the line for his goal. “We are not playing with any fear,” he said. “I think in the first half of the season, I wasn’t there, but they were unlucky I think, and sometimes they lost games they maybe shouldn’t have done. “Now everything is going well for us. We are scoring goals and we know how to keep the leads and win the games. We just have to keep on going and keep on doing it.” Stoke boss Tony Pulis went into the West Ham dressing room after the game on Saturday to congratulate Ba, but it must have been with something of a heavy heart after missing out on the player’s signature.
For Ba though there are no hard feelings. “He was very happy for me,” revealed the striker after the match.
“I came very close to going there, but you just have to move on. Things happen in life and I am not going to worry about not moving to Stoke. I have come here and I am just getting on with it and moving on.”Moving on is something of an understatement. He has rejuvenated the West Ham team alongside Thomas Hitzlsperger and he is convinced that the team will stay in the Premier League. “I know that we can get out of it. I know the ability of the players and I know that we can do even better than we are at the moment,” he insisted. “All the games are important. Last week’s game against Liverpool was important, but I think these kinds of games, like against Stoke are even more vital. “We have to play Tottenham and Chelsea in the next weeks and we will go there with confidence and we will go there to win.”

"He held off the strong-arm tactic of Marc Wilson" Did he? If only there had been some "strong-arm" tactics, he might not have scored then!

Pulis actually went in to tell Mr. Ba that "Wilko's playing on Sunday, so strap up well lad".

Mmmmmm Spidey sense says that TP was desperate for this deal to happen and others prevented it Would explain a hell of alot Someone obviously wanted him but TP has also towed the party line elsewhere hasn't he by saying Ba is an injury timebomb?
ANO of those which we'll have to file under "we'll never know" i suspect (like Jamo's non-transfer for e.g.)

Think Pulis dropped a bollock not signing Ba but im guessing the decision was made already. In fairness to Tone he had a raging hard-on for this signing and had done for over two years. It's fair to say he's gutted we didn't get him.

dicanio10: Pulis desperately wanted to sign him mate but even he has had to admit that the results of his medical were just too big a risk to take. We tried to get him on loan but he was always going to go to you after all that had gone on. What I find strange is your manager now saying that WH were always in for him and that Pulis highjacked his bid. That sounds like complete crap since he had all but signed for us. Grant reckons he was the only manager who'd ever heard of him before Stoke stepped in but, given that Pulis has signed several Senegalise players in the past couple of seasons and given that Salif Daio knows every friggin Senegalise player on the planet, it's likely that we were well aware of Ba. Anyway, he looks the part for you lot and we may regret not signing him, but it was understandable at the time.

Decent thing to do IMO. Shows he wanted the player and there is no hard feelings because it didn't work out.

Tone has never given any credence to a medical (GNW, Fuller, Cresswell etc) and I'm pretty sure he would have been just as untroubled by Ba's. I think the deal was put on hold by someone else at the club, quite possibly Coatesy. This would explain the strange tactics of late. He has fornm here and did exactly the same thing when he fell out with the Icelanders.
All conspiracy of course and totally unfounded.

You may be right Alvechurch in that Pulis wouldn't have worried too much about the medical since it's not his money. It's probably right that Coates didn't fancy gambling with £7 Million given the medical evidence, and who can blame him. The three players you mentioned were all inexpensive signings and so no real gamble (or at least worth the minimal gamble).

I reckon Fuller was still a gamble though doz, considering we had nothing like the revenue streams we have now.

I reckon Fuller was still a gamble though doz, considering we had nothing like the revenue streams we have now. He was but, as a gamble, he was also about a £7M cheaper than Ba.
Quite a difference - even for the (rightly) cautious PC, considering TP's less-than sparkling transfer record now.

It was a bit of a gamble at the time Alvechurch but a 'calculated' and modest gamble. The £7 Million quoted for Ba, whilst looking good value in terms of his abilities, was a huge gamble if the medical results were as bad as we're lead to believe.

If he was that bad, then, fine, we were right & it was too big a risk.
But...he seems more than fine and had played all Hoff's games (i think) up to Dec.
So, what was soooo bad that we found?
That's what i'd like to know (as well as who did the medical).

Hope TP is not a coates puppert when it comes to anymore signings, perhaps Coates lost a bit of faith with 'quality' of his other ones.
