One of the best refs we have imo but he's had a really bad week with some terrible decisions and it would mean another inept clown being promoted from the championship if he was to call it a day.

Surely a large part of refereeing is about being able to take stick. What a pussy.

The point is though that he really isn't a very good referee at all.
Clattenberg's arrival in the Premier League was heralded by all sorts of film star type hype but events have proved, not just this weekend, that his decision making is simply not up to the mark.
Over the past season or two, the man has made so many unbelievably poor decisions that the league will be a far better place without him.

He makes many strange decisions at Old Trafford, that's for sure.
He's still the best referee we've had at the Brit this season.

In my mind, there is no doubt that refs generally favour the big club but apart from that, I feel sorry for most refs. They have to make split second decisions from wherever their viewpoint is at the time. We get to see the original incidents from a different and often clearer angle, plus replays from all angles. Many refs want to use video technology and to see some rules changed, but the idiotic law makers prefer to bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything is ok

I think Sgt Muttley has put his finger on the problem. If Clattenberg quits there is a fair chance that his replacement on the Prem list will be a WORSE referee.
