Load up at the Johnnies then grab a taxi to a random mix of Charlies/Valentines/Wheatsheaf/Glebe/Harry's/Talbot/Kings Arms/Vic then to the game
After the game, a reverse order of random pubs then get wasted somewhere like Revolution with cheap vodka trays, hello oblivion.
Good times.

SOME STIRRING MEMORIES THERE . IN THE LATE 60S & EARLY 70S , OUR REGULAR MEETING PLACE WAS THE RED LION . IT USED TO ATTRACT ALL SORTS , MODS , SKINS GREASERS AND YOUR REGULAR BEER MONSTERS WHO LOVED A GOOD RUCK . AT AROUND 2.30 THE CALL TO ARMS CAME AND THE PLACE USED TO EMPTY , AS A HUMAN SNAKE OF BLOOD, SNOP AND ADRENALIN MADE THEIR WAY TO THE GROUND . OFTEN TO BE CONFRONTED BY A GANG OF AWAY FANS , WHO HAD THE BOTTLE TO ENTER THE BOOTHEN . IM NEVER ONE TO GLAMOURISE ANY FORM OF VIOLENCE , BUT THOSE DAYS WERE JUST DAMN CRAZY AND LIKE IT OR NOT , YOU TO LIVE WITH IT . THANK GOD IM NOW TO SLOW TO RUN , TO SOFT TO FIGHT AND TO UNHEALTHY TO TAKE TO LIQUID .

Early visit to The Union in Longton, before a combo of Charlies/Wheatsheaf. If it was a train journey to Stoke from Longton, then the Roebuck would be on the list.

The Swan at the bottom of Stoke Bank (now a paint shop), then the Vic at 2.55 for one last whisky before kick off. Never saw a kick off for 15 years - bliss! Was usually about 10mins to half time before i'd worked the team out. Too much analysis now about formations and players etc. Squad announced on mobile phones and everybody walking into the ground on a downer before a ball is kicked. Getting to the ground 15 mins before kick off is just unhealthy! and unchristian!

old stoke your brain must be well addled, charlies and valentines were the same pub, with those names at different times Yes yes details details that's why I put "/" between them. Pretty sure Revolution in Castle was open before the Brit was built. Happy to stand corrected and not fussed about being pulled up about a minor infraction of details on the internet. And yes...it was all many years ago and yes my brain is often addled.

Does anyone still frequent any of the pubs listed on here (that are still going of course) before a game at the Brit for tradition? Or have the "classic matchday experience" pubs of the powerleague/harvester now got most of the custom?

Uncle Tom's Cabin for me, it was always packed. If you got there after 2pm then you had to queue up to get in on a Saturday. Leave ten mins before kick off and get a burger from a greasy burger van outside the ground, a programme and Oatcake and still be on the Boothen End a few minutes before kick off.
