I don't believe for one minute that Fuller could play like he did for 40 minutes if he was significantly affected by a virus. You spin me right round, Pulis right round like a record, Pulis Right round round round

Firstly - do we seriously expect Glenn Roeder to come out and say, "what a fantastic signing for Stoke, he'll be fit, raring to go and ready to fire them to promotion"!! He's going to give this amazing insight into his knowledge of Shola Ameobi as a footballer with a slight air of negativity so as to have a pop at our expensive gamble and hence prove a point isnt he!!
The fact is.......he wasnt great last night, but I felt he looked better in the second half (when Ricci came on) when we upped our game as a team and started to pass the ball much better and into feet. From about 50 mins onwards we passed it, used the ball better and got the ball in towards shola's feet much more, which is what he and Ricci need - abandon the long ball and pass it!! What use now is that long 'pump' up the park that we seem intent on playing at every opportunity!!!!!??????
We finally have some decent ball players in midfield - and with a possible midfield on sat of Delap, Pearson, Whelan and Lawrence (provided fit) we should be using them not by-passing them!! Get it to Ricci's feet and lets take someone apart!!!!
Roll on Coventry - I'm staying positive - think we could still do this - need 4 wins (which is very do-able) - reckon 81 points will see us up!!!!
I'll see the other 3,000 odd stokies at Coventry to cheer the lads on - one last push now boys!!!!!! Come on!!!!!!!!

I think he was ok. Always looked dangerous with the ball at his feet imo and he'll prove his worth imo.

My thoughts exactly FullerMagic, Mr. Pulis could put a positive spin on a bastard tornado . The biggest disapointment for me last night by a country mile was Ameobi, he along with Sidebe was absolutely dreadfull, a massive massive let down .

For what its worth I think Shola is a decent player who is no where near match fit. In our position we would have been better going for an Earnshaw or a David Connolly who may have got us the goals for automatic promotion. Shola will not be fit enough to provide his worth before the end of the season, he has simply been out far too long. This is not is fault but the manager who has shelled out a fortune to get him here.
Footnote; Ricardo Fuller with the ebola virus is a bigger goal scoring threat than Mama.

Shola plays like that when he's fit, as I said in another thread world beater one day and couldn't beat a drum the next.
Either way it's a win, win scenario for us because if he doesn't cut the mustard with you's he's out, and if he does he's gone, possibly the best thing KK has done since his return.

£125,000 per game for the lad and the shocking thing is that he didn't look anywhere near match fit. We didn't dare take him off, but he was breathing out of his arse after an hour. If we had to take a loan player off to bring on Bothroyd, why not Amoebi? The reason's obvious, I suppose. He's start and finish every single game, but I don't know if he's up to that at all. Up front this season we've had mostly Fuller and Sidibe. This guy is neither Fuller, nor is he Sidibe, but last night he seemed to do a damn good impression of good old Vincent Pericard. He made Fuller look proactive and his standing in an offside position for 50% of the game got a tad irritating. One thing that I was expecting from him was a bit of strength, but he didn't show any of that. Indeed, if anything, he's played in the Premiership too long. In the first half, he had a good chance to turn and get a shot in from inside the box. Instead, he semi-held the ball up, appealed for a penalty and got penalised for obstruction.
To be fair though, everybody was crap last night and he wasn't the worst player on the pitch. That accolade goes to Danny Pugh for some really atrocious play in defence and up front. He did do one or two things right, such as him cutting inside into the box to play the ball in in the second half. I really have big doubts, though.

Think he was over rated at Newcastle anyhow, but gotta keep faith with him I guess! Sadly not just Pericard-esque in the way he looks, but the way he played too.

If that useless lazy git is costing us half a mill he wants locking up for serious fraud. He is dire. If Laurel and Hardy can get a start in front of Fuller and Bothroyd then I'm bringing my boots next week because I'm better than them and I'm forty bastard seven and was never much good twenty years ago. If Pugh can get a game ahead of Dicko then there is something seriously wrong n Pulis' mind. Break out the straight jackets. Oh and by the way Cort is a defensive liabilityand should be replacedby Shawcross. Other than that we didn't play that badly and made enough chances to have won 3 games its just that our two 'strikers' were too busy carrying that piano repeatedly up those steps.

"He made Fuller look proactive "
Mystical, I always think you talk a lot of sense, but is that an accusation of laziness towards Ricardo?
Ok, his body language can leave summat to be desired but I watch his movement, runs and workrate quite a bit, and to be honbest he puts a shift and a half in. He has had to shoulder the burden of being partnered by a human plank for 2 seasons now and if he looks knackered then its due to him carrying Mama every single match.
Please can the Mam lovers list the goals he has supposedly set up this season as my memory must be going. Fuller's 14 goals have mostly been down to himself, himself, himself, himself and Liam Lawrence. There might have been 1 Mama assist (WBA at home) but often his flick-ons go into another postcode.
Ricardo is both brilliant at this level skill-wise, plus a shining light 90% of the time with work rate too. Our manager is doing a great job of making sure he doesn't play for us next season. Well done TP, let's hope for another buffoon to watch this time next year who plies his centre forwarding trade on the halfway line!

bunny - I didn't mean to infer that Fuller is lazy in an accusative sort of way. Fuller's job isn't to run around all the time chasing the ball, his job is to receive the ball and be the best player in the whole damn league, something he usually performs rather well. However, when Ricardo went off the boil lately, people seemed infuriated at his apparent laziness. I don't mind it so much that he doesn't run, Sidibe does all the running for him and then Fuller comes in and destroys. It isn't a dig at Fuller at all, it's just that if you watch Fuller for most of the match he'll be strolling around.
I suppose a short way of putting that would be that I wholly agree that Fuller is absolutely bloody brilliant.

Annoys me how people think it's fantastic to think of a really cool nickname like....."Shameobi", or even......"Shocka"!!!! AMAZING! That's really funny, and helps lots to the cause after the poor fucker has played two games, yes, TWO games! And now he has lovely witty nicknames already. I despair, the intelligence

I cant believe some of the posts on here, Ameobi wasn't that bad at all, ok you can tell he's played all his football in the premier as he doesn't like anyone tackling him, but i can remember half a dozen times when he's pulled the ball out of the sky either with his chest or feet and layed it off to Pearson or cressie. Also what about in the second half in the boothen/john smiths corner when he got past 2 defenders and passed it into the box for someone to tap it in(similar to Fuller/Lawro goal against scunny) when have you ever seen Sidibe do that.
We can all moan about him but who are you going to replace him with - Sidbie, Parkin, Cresswell, Gally??....................Didnt think so!!

When Fuller and Ameobi were on the pitch we were the better team and should reall have got a draw if it weren't for a bit of luck and some good defending.
When the ball was played to his feet he showed some nice touches and looked a pretty decent footballer.

Agree with that TSA. Sometimes a player is completely useless or absolutely brilliant, but it's rarely as black-and-white as that.
I'd always imagined that Ameobi was brought in as the "Mama" type of player that Pulis' style demands, but which Parkin and Pericard weren't able to be. I couldn't believe he started with the pair of them together on Monday, but enough's been said already about the team selection.
For what it's worth, I thought some of Shola's control when the ball was played into him at pace was excellent. I also thought that having received the ball well, his passing was then often dreadful. He DID look better when Ricardo came on, and I think we need to see them play a game or two together before condemning him.
Edit: Ooh, my 300th post!!

It might help Ameobi's cause if he played up front front with a fellow striker, not Pulis' fucking goal-every-38-games bum chum.
Keep the faith lads. It'll all turn out OK in the end.

Firstly stoke need to work on their distribution from the back, not just wellying the ball as far as possible hoping a forward will get on the end of it. Riggot was guilty of this far too often on Monday night. The best defender with the ball at his feet is Shawcross, he is the only one that looks up and plays little balls into Rics feet. Come on TP play Ameobi up top with Fuller with Shawcross providing the ammunition.
