The last few games have seen the introduction of Pugh and Wilson as full backs and reading the runes suggests that they will start on Monday
Kemp has indicated that this change of full backs is yet another move towards a better style of football with ball retention and passing becoming more important
Is this a change for the better and are these two players the answer or merely stop gaps?

well they get forward, but i suspect Higgy Collins and wilko have always been required to stay back.
Interesting because I always felt that the reason for getting Collins was to overlap with Ethers, and the risk is he's weaker in defence

I think this is a signal of intent Paul! No disrepesct to any of the other three who have played at Fullback this Season, but at every level of Football, having Fullbacks who can play, makes a huge difference to how the Team plays from the back. The Second goal against Brighton is a brilliant example of this! Longer term, whether it's Wilson & Pugh is debateable, but without a doubt this is the way forward, and I think TP see's it the same way!

No we sold Tuncay, we therefore have no creativity in the side and I for one won't be renewing my season ticket because I only ever got one to see Tuncay being creative.

I think they are possibly stop gaps - at least as far as playing at full back is concerned. Wilson might grow into the role but, to me, Pugh still looks less good at full back than in central midfield.
What the experiment should do is show Pulis that our play can benefit from having fullbacks who can attack. The type of goal Walters' scored against Brighton, from a Wilson cross, should be happening much more often than it has done with our limited full backs in the past.
If TP gets the confidence to buy specialist fullbacks who can attack as well as defend, that can only be good for the development of the squad.

Personally I think this is an experiment that has failed dismally. Last season I was very pro Danny Pugh playing LB. Since has has been playing there the last few games I have been very anxious. Very poor positioning. Also Wilson is much better suited to CM. I thought when Wilko came on for the last three mins vs The Arse he did more than Wilson had done in the whole game, especially going forward

They've only payed a handful of games so it's too early to tell, But TP seems as though he is going to persist with them. The PL has far less tackling then other divisions so maybe that side of the game is less important.

This is another coup for Davesviews.
He told us nearly every day that BOTH full back positions needed attention.

I think you are right gibby Too early to tell about these two but the intent to improve our football is there for all to see. Its not just about making runs but the forward passes that will make a difference Good news for us all!

The main hope I have is that TP will realise that 2 full backs who look comfortable on the ball and can support our wide men will help our play. I don't think Pugh and Wilson are the answer but it's encouraging that it might be getting TP's head that this is the way forward.

I like wilson at fullback, not sure about pugh though as he doesn't have the same quality on the ball or in defence.

I always thought if TP would alter the system he'd break up the 'cage' with a ball playing midfielder given license to get forward and only one defensive mid.
I never expected him to change the 4 centre half policy. It makes me a bit uncomfortable to be honest. I hope he doesn't get all giddy and encourage them to start making runs on the overlap.

If we are ever going to get the best out of Jones we need to get the wingers further forward and also have overlapping full backs who can contribute, we have the holding midfield players to cover for them. I was pleased that he kept them in the side at Arsenal and they did ok defensively. I think Wilson will benefit from a spell at right back and can maybe move into midfield when he gets his premiership legs. Pugh always gives 100% so will do a job but long term may need replacing with a better quality player but its a positive move as far as I'm concerned.

For me I think it will stay the same till the end of the season, then Pulis will look to get better players in but of a similar ilk i.e players good at going forward and competent enough when defending, I must admit Im surprised that he's kept it that way because when I first saw it I just assumed it was a way to rest some players, Im very encouraged by it though.

isnt this just typical pulis ? playing players out of position ? Pulis only knows how to play one way and to be honest Id rather he stick with what he knows best. We need fullbacks who actually specialise in that role - wilson and pugh aint the answer nor are they a change in tactic - its just same old pulis

Tomorrow will be a real test as they'll be up against Jerome Thomas who I really rate. It'll be interesing to see how they get on.
