The time has come and a few home truths have to be told, the first we have fallen apart in the biggest way, yes we can still make it but it’s no longer in our hands it’s now down to others throwing it away and for me that’s not good enough.
The squad is good enough on paper, though only if the best team is actually played and we just haven’t been doing that. The second half we had so much possession and with a little more luck could have got something from the game but we didn’t and therefore whether people like it or not the side put out will be scrutinized and ultimately the manager has to carry the can. Oh I am sure many will say it’s down to the players, well unless you put your best side on the field and set them up to win you can’t blame the players.
Why in Gods name was Sidebe playing, does the manager basically pick his side based on wanting to win a game or basically fit his favoured players into a system and hope for the best. I have been ass positive as possible and yes enjoyed the season, it’s been a magnificent roller coaster but now the realities have to be faced, the managers desire to play certain players no matter what has prevented us from winning this league. Andy Griffin needed to be moved or dropped long before now, yet he’s still there and it’s not working any better now than it ever has for him at right back, yet the manager persists with his blinkered view that Griffin is a right back.
I am tired miserable and basically fed up, the question now for many if we can’t clinch promotion from the position we found ourselves in, when can we do it. I have said many times before, I don’t hate the manager I simply don’t believe he has what it takes to finish the job and that for me means promotion. I hope he can now prove me totally wrong and win the last 4 games but sadly I head off to bed very doubtful he can or ever will be brave enough to actually change from his stubborn views of certain players and they are sadly not good enough to take us where we wish to go, the saddest part if we dropped, Sidebe, Griffin or moved him to left back we would be sitting top.
The debate about Hoefkens earlier was one which I didn’t join in, I liked him but he’s gone but I would ask those who are still firmly of the belief Tone can do it, would you rather have this seasons defence or last I know which I prefer.
I know the second half was much better and yes with a little luck we may have got something from the game but sorry the first half was diabolical and we lost the game by 50 minutes, we had to throw everything at them, we were at home and fighting to regain top spot. If you’re the away side of course you’re going to have to ride your luck but in reality the game was gone by the time we began to play.
I am not calling for the managers head as some have, though if there aren’t some serious questions being asked by Peter Coates over whether with all the financial backing he has provided for him, the position we found ourselves in just a month ago, as to whether he really can take us to the next level then I for one would be pretty amazed.
