Depends whether you need the law of the land to tell you who you are, I know as many happy unmarried couples as married.

(and before anybody starts, i am well aware that not all single parents are bad parents, not all divorced parents are bad).

What about gay couples/civil partnerships?
People will con the system, whatever the system is. If people get more money for being married, we'll just see even more marriages eventually end in divorce I'd have thought

So you are against somebody trying to improve our society and help the tax payers in the country paying out aganist cheats? Rome wasn't built in day, it's going to take a few years to unravel and put straight the last 13 years of fookwittery

I'm all for rewarding stable families But what about the married scummers that have 10 kids a 5 bed house both on benefits, her because she is a baby making machine and him because he did his back in while nicking the lead and lightning rod copper from the church roof, but still rake in nearly 2k a month in benefits, rent, free nursery places etc etc? Will they get rewarded for getting married?

Will they get rewarded for getting married? They should get the bare minimum, like all the workshy breeders. No jobless household on benefit should make more than the minimu wage for a 40 hour week. The 'benefits' to a married couple shouldnt be monetary handouts but tax breaks and reductions and the insentive to sit and breed for the whole of your adult life should be removed. Nothing will improve in this country as long as this legacy of state funded families continues. I agree with mr sausage that the rich tax dodgers need orting out to but that is a) a different issue and b) not something i have to see everyday and have my nosed rubed in how people who do nothing have more than me!

Are you saying most are tho? cos thats patently untrue - yeah its different but its not automatically worse. Plenty of women are in domestic violence relationships that are married (in case anybody didnt know bringing children up in dv relationships is classed as child abuse in law) and its proven that its harder to leave violent partners when you are married. Its swing and roundabouts - now you get people not marrying for money - soon youll get people marrying for money - they will still be toxic relationships.

Could you imagine how frightening it would be for a child seeing an adult attack someone.
