Wouldnt you just love to stand in the Boothern End (proper standing terraces) for games like this evening?
Whatever happened to the campaign to get terraces back in football?

I am a stoke city fan, through and through but when my dad isnt going and there is no buses going i cant make it, so i go to watch telford. They have seating and stand and the noise that comes from the standing is eletric, i think this would be a great idea

stokielad. i agree mate, i often go to rushden diamonds when stoke are away as we lie 100 miles from SOT. There is the choice of seating and terraces, i always go on the terrace and the atmosphere is great. yet the big difference between telford, rushden etc. and the likes of stoke is the volume of support and safety. a few hundred fans are probably more safe on a terrace, than say 4 or 5 thousand on the boothen end. im all for the idea cus the atmosphere would be great, but just can't see terraces being brought back in the top 2 divisions.

The Boothen end seems to be ideally bulit for a split seating/standing stand. As you enter from the concourse, the front section should be made standing, and then if you go up the steps it should be seating. Its easy to segregate as all you need to do is have say 2 of the entrances out of the 6 for standing areas only and block off the steps going to the seats.
Simple.

Sorry guys it's over .. standing that is. Does anyone honestly think we will have a standing area ever in our ground?? move on lets concentrate on making the brit like a bloody cauldron of noise instead of banging on about standing ffs. If the last 3 home games atmosphere is the same as the newcastle game then we will carry the team to promotion.

Im not convinced it is over....Batman. With proper segregated areas holding about 500, Eight such areas would be safe.
It will come back you wait and see

Im only 5 foot 9 and just turned 40, and my legs get all tired, personally I used to like the old Boothen stand, coz the view was great and I could sit down and be all comfy, possibly even with some sort of hot beverage in a flask! Mind you, I used to go to see Shelbourne play in Dublin, and there you could usually have 4 or 5 seats to yourself, and lie down if it all got too exciting, and there was a chip shop behind one of the goals where you could get excellent fish and chips and get hit by a wayward shot if you were lucky! Thats a matchday experience!

actually buxton it does, as we either have to get tickets for away games after each home game or getting them sent in the post, as we did for ipswich away this season, only for the tickets to arrive 2 hours before kick-off! therefore we are limited to the away games we can go to.

While it IS a little late for this year, standing is popular in Germany and may make a comeback here too. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7129319.stm

I hate sitting down. Mainly because i always seem to end up next to tosspots. When you stand and you end up next to a fuckwit, you can always move.
I think it will return, it's been a monumental success in Germany. The principle reason they don't want it in the Premier League is because they can charge more for seated areas.

Batman it's not a question of 'moving on'. This thread indicates that among an extremely unrepresentative sample quite a number fancy having the option to stand up at games.
I just pointed out that this had been reintroduced in Germany, where it has been very popular.
The kneejerk reaction to Hillsborough and Bradford, while necessary, removed a lot that was special about football. It is a distinct possibility that in the future, with appropriate health and safety restrictions, we could have standing again at all British grounds. One obvious benefit to this would be pricing flexibility which could attract more young people to the game - the ones in between family stand age and those who can earn and pay the full whack.
Discussing this does not preclude us from making the Brit a cauldron in the meantime - I agree with you that the atmosphere can be great, much louder than established Premier League clubs.

after reading the article im a bit more convinced that its possible, but there will always be the question of safety. if the standing areas can be made safe for top flight divisions then there wouldn't be an issue, we just don't want to get into a situation where another tragedy such as hillsborough or burnden park could occur. possible ways could be limiting the capacity of such standing areas.

Joint the debate or dont comment Not trying to be clever, just making a point really. You wouldn't spell Stoke wrong so why spell our most famous stand wrongly? I won't return the Smite. Regarding the actual topic, I loved the old Boothen End and I have many fond memories of it. I can't see terracing ever returning to English football though.

reckon i would shit it if they had standing at top top of the brit. its steep enough when you walk down the steps. they would have to put barriers on every step. good idea the lower sections. could do that all round the ground. would be wicked. like the old butter street
ggggggggooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnn stoke tonight
