Well you can sup some fine ales and some not quite fine ales in the local establishments. You can sample the local grub such as meat pies and chips. Have a laugh with your mates and meet up with old friends. And very occasionally Stoke City win, and all the shit games are forgotten. Beats shopping, DIY and visiting the in-laws any day of the week.

I never understand why people go and watch basketball - but I never go on message boards and ask the question - I just accept that people are different and like different things.

I've had some of best days with Stoke City travelling away, and alot of those were watching fucking tragic football. An away day is the whole experience, travelling with your mates, drinking in different pubs, banter with the locals, the adrenalin of a possible win, singing together in the stadium, leaving the stadium either elated or deflated (ie Liverpool the other night). It's all part and parcel of what I love about away matches. And it has fucking nothing to do with what TP has done for the club as the above poster has mentioned and all to do with the love of the club. I travelled away with Stoke while Tony Pulis was playing for Bristol Rovers the first time around and I'll be travelling away with Stoke when he is fucking long gone aswell, regardless of what division we are in and regardless of what type of football we are playing.

H Same goes, great post. I've hardly been away or home for that matter since we've been in the premiership but that's just circumstance. My time will come again and when it does i'll get the same old buzz going away that i've always had, the beer, the laughs, the banter, seeing old mates, the travelling, the singing, the match. Take blackburn away when allardyce came back, a cracking away day regardless of the shite result. It's hard watching dross and even harder when you've shelled out for it, most battle hardened stokies will debate it, moan about it and move on waiting for the next away day buzz. That's football and fans for you.

Away days are totally another animal to home games. If the phrase 'another great day out ruined by football' means anything to you, you'll know why by and large they are the best part of football.
I know one thing, I never get as pissed at home games....

The very worst thing about going to away games is the shit seats you get most of the time.

Nothing better than meeting at the local boozer early on a Sat AM... Landlord opens up for a few "off the record" pints... Hired mini bus what your mate is driving, loads of crates of ale for the journey... Banter, singing, boozing... Hit the away town/citys boozers with stokies coming from everywhere to join you... Go to the game signg your heart out regardless of performance and result... Have a few pub stops on the way home at random destinations! Whether you're celebrating or comiserating... It's always a banging day out with the lads!!!
GGGGOOOOOOOOOAAARRRNNN STOOOOOOOOOOOOKE!!

Away days are different to home games. There's a completely different feeling and atmosphere travelling away with your fellow Stokie brethren and going to rival territory. The atmosphere inside the ground is usually 10 times better than anything you will get at home games and the day as a whole is a much better experience. Some times it's an all day thing when you take into consideration travelling to and from the ground. I've always preffered the away day experience.
Our last 3 games away (Fulham, Wolves + Liverpool) really make it difficult to justify the expense though. It costs a bloody fortune. No doubt if I went to Birmingham I'd have a great day out with the lads but I'm not sure if I can suffer that shyte again.
Undecided.

I never understand why people go and watch basketball - but I never go on message boards and ask the question - I just accept that people are different and like different things. That is one of the shittest analogies i've seen on here. Doesn't reflect at all the point that was being made above. What you should have said is 'shit basketball' rather than 'basketball'. Not simply compare one sport with another. Keep up.

I wouldn't go to watch us play away if we're not even going to put out a strong team or put up a fight.
You have your matchday routine, you're getting excited about the chances of a victory, you hit the bookies and start placing bets on first goal scorers and possible winning results, you head to the pub for a few pints and discuss with your mates about who's going to playing and which players are on the best form.... all under the misplaced assumption that your best players will actually be starting...
Then you get to the game and the first name on the teamsheet is fucking 'Diao' and the team adopts a 4-5-0-1 formation for the entire game...even when losing with 15 minutes left.
The liverpool game was just a damage limitation exercise and i wouldn't pay money just to see that. If you're going to go down then you may as well go down fighting.
IMO.

I have to say that if we are to see fans baulking at TPs tactics it will manifest itself firstly with our away support. The last 4 games have been shockers and when its costing the best part of £80 -£100 to go you have to wonder who will keep going. After Liverpool at home i naievley thought we would employ similar tactics at Anfield but the 5 changes negated that thought and a thoroughly dismal performance ensued. I will be saving my money for away games from now on until there is a palpable ceed change in our away tactics and we actually try to win a game rather than not lose it.
