So my favourite player has just been hoofed out of the door, and with it the last remnants of belief i had that our manager, a sensible but desperately limited individual, had any intention of changing our style of football during this 3 year plan that he was busy constructing. Well, now you know. It was all bullshit. Absolute fucking bollocks designed solely to placate the vast majority of football fans at Stoke who, whilst being delighted at the progress the club was making, yearned for a day when pragmatism was occassionally replaced by performance. An enjoyable day out watching Stoke? It's as far away now as it ever was.
Tuncay was a mercurial individual, no question about that. He had days when he was almost insuferable, times when he was incapable of fitting into our style of football and looked like a fish out of water. But he possessed attributed nobody else at the club had. He was a genuine international footballer, great touch, vision and an ability to change the game fort he better. We now have nobody like that at Stoke, and in my eyes we are poorer for it.
I was going to write a long and rambling nonsense about the direction of the club, including the recent decision to give Pugh and Higginbotham new contracts, the fact that you KNOW that Sidibe and Delap will get new ones at the end of the year and the fact thas Pulis is going to have to come up with a whole new line of fucking bullshit that a significant percentage of you will no doubt swallow whole, whilst at the same time pointing to that fact that we are in the Premier Legue as some sort of cure-all for the often desperate shite we have to sit through every Saturday. But i'm too pissed off. Losing Tuncay the player is not in the grand scheme of things a massive loss. He barely played and was treated like shite so who the fuck can blame him. What Tuncay represents is the fact that Pulis has absolutely no idea how to change the team from the one that currently grinds out results in desperate fashion. The fact that he has decided that he can now be honest with the supporters and say there was no 3 year plan, it was all phooey designed to shut us fuckers up and it worked. The fact that big throws, 4 central defenders and no midfield are the order of the day and we can either like it or lump it. Right now, i'm closer to lumping it, to be honest.
No doubt Pulis will blame Tuncay for his exit, that he didn't work 'ard enough and that we can look elsewhere to "push on". This time, i may be somewhat less inclined to believe him that I was the first time.

Was Tuncay really that good?
I know a few Boro fans and when we first signed him they told me he'd be brilliant one week and crap for the next six or seven, I didn't agree with them, despite them seeing him week in week out and me seeing him just when he played against Stoke! But frankly I think they got it about right.
He wasn't good enough to hold a place in our team and he didn't play every week for relegated Boro, I didn't see any team above us in the league making strong moves for him either!
I think some Stoke fans built him up to be something he wasn't. Sometimes (often) I think some Stoke fans make their mind up about a player good or bad and refuse to acknowledge anything that doesn't fit in with their pre-conceived ideas

It was never about changing the style of play, that's you putting words into his mouth.

When Pulis came back for his second term here, did he not apoligise for the utter shite his term played in his first term? Or am I just going mad?

All i can remember of the 3 year plan was to go up and stay up for 3 seasons and then review.
Its not a hoax, i just checked the premier league table and apparently we're 10th

Quite liked Tunny but not devastated at his going.
Pulis has done superbly for me. Made fantastic progress. Brought in some great players.
Seen some great games and watched some great football.
Let's see what happens in the coming months.

In fact i'd go as far to say as there is a 50/50 split!!! Top post Vestan, everything spot on!! This football club has taken a huge step backwards today!

Some of you people really are unbelievable. You probably need to cast your minds back 4 years ago and see where we are today and what investment we've made as a club.

I think the plan is exactly how you describe it. Never heard TP say we were going to change or evolve the style of football, just the club and it's stature, his limitations haven't and never will change, i accepted that a long time ago.

Well said Vestan. This is the best and most heartfelt post i have read for a while and i am sure a lot of stokies would agree. Was a time i couldnt give a toss about how the media portrayed us but now it is becoming embarrasing week after week. I dont expect us to be the new Barcelona but fuck me this lot cant even string two passes together!. Shawcross and Etherington apart the rest would struggle to get into a league one team. Coates should drag Pulis in, thank him for his efforts, give him a brisk handshake and a painting of a spitfire and pack him off.

TP wont get the sack bovrildave, he makes Coates £60million every year! Do you earn your employer that much?
