I think you're probably correct there bexhillpotter but who knows.
I would never have suggested that Varney, DJ Campbell would have scored goals but they have. Some suggested Beattie wasn't good enough for the Prem when we signed him from Sheff United but he proved them wrong.
Beattie is a player that when he's expected to score goals he doesn't (Everton, Rangers, England, his second season at Stoke). Can he handle the pressure?????
He has the ability but has he the bottle?

I think it could be the move that revives his career - small club so not much pressure, but a team that will ALWAYS create chances for him. +1 they need a good finisher and thats what beats is, they will move dj wide right with varney left and beats in middle

The problem with Beats is that in truth ever since he started to pick up injuries during his good spell of form he was never really able to keep fit.
He missed games in our first season and although he came back at the tail end and got that goal against Wigan he wasn't right then.
Last season was more of the same, every time he tried to strike the ball he looked like he could pull up lame.

He will do class for them, james beattie scfc legend, best of luck to him Legend my arse! Sir Stanley Matthews was a legend. Dennis Smith. Ricardo Fuller etc. They could all be deemed legends. But Beattie an SCFC legend for half a seasons good service. James Beattie 'scfc player of note' 'mentioned in dispatches'

Legend??? conna believe that. he had half a season when he was tryin to prove he could still cut it at prem level, then once he'd achieved that he showed a complete lack of respect towards the club and manager and supporters. absolutely despise the guy. oh n to him keepin us up there were 10 other players. Etherington was more important imo!!!

Isn't Holloway TP's buddy?
I imagine there have been communications between them on the Beattie subject.
"Look Tony, yeh,if I don't nut him in the shower with my tackle swinging in the breeze, yeh, can he do a job for us? I don't care really as I'm quitting,yeh.".

I've never mentioned or never will mention Beattie as Stoek City legend. I wouldn't even add Ricardo Fuller to the same list that features Sir Stan/Denis Smith/Hudson but thats just my opinion.
Etherington was a much better signing than Beattie and has probably been our most important signing since promotion to the Premier league. To suggest however that Ethers was more important in that 6 month period when they both signed till the last game of the season is ludicrous.
Without Beatties goals, which were not coming from anyone or anywhere else at that time, we would have gone down.
Its a shame that his attitude and pedigree after this period was never repeated, yet Ethers went on to become a better and better signing.

Ringo, ethers assisted most of those goals, prior to him who would've done. Ethers is still here!!!!
