Yes it's different in the Cup.
Agree it's a ridiculous rule, and even more so with the 25-man squads. It could be argued that TP picks a "weakened team" in virtually every Prem game we play.
;D

Blackpool should refuse to pay the fine. Don't even appeal just refuse to pay it and see what happens. Its a rediculous rule and cannot be applied to the top 4 teams because they can field a full strength side from any of their 25 man squad. the rule is unfair and would not stand up in court.

I would laugh if they did and the FA kicked them out of the league!

Quite right my son of thunder, if they are in the squad how are they a weakened team? As for the £25k fine - that's two and a half weeks salary of a Blackpool player. FA strike again! I'm with you Laurie, don't pay it.

Apparently the Premier League clubs themselves voted on this rule before the start of the season and retained it so they can hardly bitch when they break it and get fined.
Now we have the charade of Holloway pretending to offer his resignation and it being rejected. Utter bollocks!
Clearly they played a weakened side as those players were all immediately dropped again and many have hardly been seen since. Clear cut this.........and yes we should be fined on Sunday for playing a weakened side as well.

The aurthorities can't have it both ways surely , they force clubs into naming a 25 man squad then to fine a club for playing players within that squad is ludicrous , they are appealing and their legal team should really nail this one

They voted for the rule. Being that they can't play anyone outside of the 25, clearly there must be an ability to play a weakened side within it (which they did). We won't be quite to content with it when inevitably one day we suffer big time because someone else gave up the points with a weakened site. And it's just as important in week 10 as week 38!

Hull V Man united 2008/2009 season final day.
Hull ended up staying up due to other results but had they needed to win to stay in the league, they had the best possible chance with the team united put out :
Manchester United (4-4-1-1) Tomasz Kuszczak; Rafael Da Silva (Eckersley 60), Wes Brown, Gary Neville [captain], Ritchie De Leat (Possebon 79); Nani, Darren Fletcher, Darron Gibson, Danny Welbeck (Tosic 87); Lee Martin; Federico Macheda.
The ONE stand out name is Nani, who, 2 seasons ago was not the player he is now!
Who the hell is eckersley and possebon ????
JOKE!

It's utter bollocks and all to do with the fear of someone surrendering points to one of the "top 4" and having an effect on the title race. Utter rubbish.
How many times have Fergie, Winger et al played lesser known players against the bottom 4? There is no difference at all.
