Phillips and Carew as stop gaps until the end of the season then. I'm not too bothered so long as we bring in a top class striker in the summer.

;D On another note from that story, have birmingham signed martins then? Always thought he was a decent player for newcastle.

Would be a cracking signing for the bench, one of the best goalscorers the country's ever seen, give him a chance and he'll hit the net!
Obafemi Martins would've been worth looking at as a replacement for Ric, shame about that one.

Sounds like a load of shit to me. Surely TP can't think a bit part player at Brum has any business playing for us? Surely?

He shouldn't let fuller go if he doesn't have a good enough player to replace him with Fcukin rediculous if true

One of the best natural finishers of the modern era. But he's never been as good as Fuller of course

One of the best natural finishers of the modern era. But he's never been as good as Fuller of course You're right on both counts in that as a finisher he was among the best around and Fuller is better than Philips at what he does, bullying defenders, creating something out of nothing and turning a game on it's head when all seems doomed. Both together in their prime would be an awesome combination. Philips is way past his best mostly down to his age and if he's the sort of signing we can expect along with the departure of Fuller it's pretty depressing to be honest

Could be one of those things that just clicks really well - if we had a player with the knack of being in the right place when the ball goes loose in the box we would be laughing.

Obafemi Martins would've been worth looking at as a replacement for Ric, shame about that one. We should have had a look at Martins some time ago. Has pace, trickery and a cracking shot. Kevin Phillips will soon be on Sky Sports or Match of the day; his time has gone.

I know Kevin Phillips might not be the answer at his age but og my god do we need a younger striker like him who gets on the end of chances and more often than not puts them away. If ever there was a need for that type of player at Stoke its now

I can think of far worse stop-gap replacements. Utter professional, very much from the same school of thought as Giggs and Scholes in his approach to the game. Trains hard, looks after himself, gives everything etc etc.
He may be getting on, but bare in mind he has never relied upon pace. He is an incredibly intelligent footballer, links the play well, takes up great positions and is a world class finisher. Many praise Bent for the positions he takes up and his clinical finishing, well Phillips is a class above in that department.
Having said that, I am heavily bias being a Sunderland fan and I haven't seen him play in a long time. (Mainly because I despise watching Birmingham). But my opinion would be that if you are struggling to put the ball in the back of the net when pushing for a goal, and the clock is ticking, then Kevin Phillips would be a great player to have on the bench. And for that reason, he may prove an astute short term signing to fill the soon to be vacated "super-sub" role.
Oh, and don't judge his Birmingham record ;D They create one chance every century and their bloody centre backs score more than their centre forwards. Horrible team. Prior to Birmingham, he has an excellent record.
