Pennant-Wilson-Whitehead-Etherington
And don't dare sell Fuller our only player who can change a game and exciting to watch.

Fuck knows...it's totally unfathomable to me.
This fear of playing wingers is the single most annoying Pulis-ism of the several that he regularly exhibits. I quite like Rory in centre midfield, but he's embarrassingly slow out-wide and offers us no outlet. He's not even as good at tracking back as Pennant is.
I'd defy any of the Pulis-arse-licking cretins on here to offer one valid reason as to why this is a good idea.
They won't though...they'll just say "we're 9th For fucks sake" or "How many coaching badges have you got" or "Please Tony, unload your hot spunk down my throat".

exactly we could be alot higher than 9th now if he played his best players, Sunderland & Bolton examples.
Don't get me wrong he's doing a great job but he could do so much better I think if he played the best team and not old plodders out of position on the right side.

I thought the days of Delap playing on the right had past. With Pennant and even Tuncay impressing on the wing, it beats me that Pulis puts Delap there ahead of them two!

I don't believe he's right but he's a stab at why he's doing it. He wants a passer in the middle of the park, sees Wilson as that man. Delap, Whitehead, Whelan, Diao non of them good enough to hold the centre with Wilson for various reasons. so he makes a useless compromise and sacrifices Pennant to allow him to play 3 CM's. As I say its a bollox kinda compromise but the alternative is admitting to himself that some of his favorite piano carriers don't really have the tools for the job. As I see it the alternatives are play Pennant and go back to Rory and Whitehead in the middle or play Pennant and replace the whole central midfield in the transfer market. All the other options are complete dross. I'd go for option 2 but it won't come cheap. |

It's 2 from 3 between Deano, Delap and Wilson. You have to play Pennant and Matty on the wings every game. We started doing and had some success and all of sudden he changed it for the Bolton game and it paid off luckily. We chase after Pennant all season, he has a successful loan spell, sign him up and put him on the bench....why??

I agree that our best team should have Etherington and Pennant out wide, but also i think our best centre mid pairing is still Delap and Whitehead.

I can only assume that Pennant isn't fit yet as he really does give our midfield great balance and his dead ball delivery and crossing are second to none.

I don't get why we played with our two tallest strikers who ideally thrive on crosses (not long balls) with a midfield consisting of Whelan, Whitehead, Delap, Wilson...
With those four we're never going to get any crosses in.
With KJ and JC up front, we HAVE to play two out and out wingers in Pennant and Ethers - at the same time.
As for playing Whelan... well, i can't condone that under any circumstances.

I think, with regards to Delap playing at RM, Wilson and Whitehead are out best two CM, Ethers is out better winget IMO...Yesterday pitch size was crying out for, long throws...He neeeded to fit Delap in somewhere

If he had to hold the middle with only occasional help from an attacking midfielder, he'd have to cover even more ground, as a result his challenges would be even more poorly timed (if thats possible) I suspect he'd see a lot of red cards. To play an attacking midfielder you need a midfield destroyer and contrary to what some on this board believe we haven't got one. |

Yes, he's a legend, but after 2,5 years in the prem you would have thought we would brought in some much better CMs.

We need a top quality destroyer in the midfield (if we're going to start Matty & JP) before we can even begin to think about anything else happening in there. To do it the other way round would be suicide or would at least mean that we're going to lose one of our wingers from the starting XI. |

Pennant will start once the dream partnership of Carew and Jones is played.

The problem is the balance remains unaltered which means we are always a creative player short of what we need. Pennant Delap Whitehead Matty. Ric or Tunny with Jones or Carew is the best balance with the players we've got right now. Palacios and Wilson for Delap and Whitehead would balance up even better but we aint got Palacios and would Tone really dare play 3 offensive midfielders in his starting 11 anyway. |
