www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/04/03/dave-jones-on-cardiff-s-rollercoaster-season-89520-20371189/Dave Jones will lead Cardiff out at Wembley in his new suit on Sunday just six months after militant Bluebirds wanted him to take his jacket off in the car park. Back in November, Jones' postbag was infiltrated by poison-pen pond life as Cardiff slumped to 20th in the Championship. And the atmosphere became even more toxic when he received death threats and even text messages challenging him to a fight. With Cardiff back at Wembley for the first time since they beat Arsenal 1-0 in the FA Cup Final 81 years ago, Jones last night unloaded an almighty serve at the "moaners" who tried to force him out. Jones, who once lost his job at Southampton because of wholly unfounded allegations about a career outside football, has faced bigger challenges than text yobs offering him to go outside. Advertisement But it has been a triumph for one of football's most durable managers, for whom the trail to Wembley's red carpet began at lowly Chasetown in January. It promises to be the most spectacular druid migration since Scott Gibbs' last-gasp try nine years ago snatched a famous 32-31 win for Wales against England as their homeless rugby union team adopted Wembley as their HQ while the decorators were turning Cardiff Arms Park into the Millennium Stadium. And it will vindicate Cardiff's decision to stand by Jones when twitchier directors would have caved in to the carping minority. Jones said: "Unfortunately for the moaners, I'm the one in the hot-seat, so tough s*** - I'll make the decisions that are right for me and the team. It's the same story wherever you go in football - the empty drum always makes the loudest noise. I've been at clubs where I've won promotion and people still moan. You can't please everybody, but if you listen to every moan and groan that's going on, you go mad. "I get letters sent into me telling me what I should do, and those people never write back and say sorry if they got it wrong. But if I'm going to do this job, I'm going to do it on my principles, which is the way I've always done it. "I just try my best and, hopefully, it will please the majority; and if the minority don't like it, so what? "Because I don't show any great passion, people think I haven't got it, but I have. It's just that I'm not an emotional person and I don't show a great deal of animation on the touchline - and I can't change that, it's just the way I am. "But I was getting abusive texts, a lot of it personal, and you certainly don't expect death threats or people challenging you to fights. It didn't bother me because I've been through much worse things in my life, but it was upsetting for my family." Jones, who led lowly Stockport into the Championship and briefly ended Wolves' 18-year wait for Premier League football in 2003, could yet join Welsh sport's hall of fame on two fronts. Cardiff, unbeaten in seven matches, are just five points off a play-off place with a game in hand and they will start favourites against Barnsley, conquerors of Champions League contenders Liverpool and Chelsea. Romantics may hanker for another chapter in Barnsley's fairytale, but Jones added: "I won't care about the romance on Sunday - this season has proved the FA Cup is alive and kicking. "Anyone who doesn't want to play in the semi-finals of the FA Cup should get out of the game because they shouldn't be in it. "Certainly the Welsh people love to go across the border and make a lot of noise in England. There's that sort of patriotism they all have."

Read it in the paper this morning and thought what a prick he was.
“the empty drum always makes the loudest noise” – Indeed Mr Jones.

Can't really see too much wrong with what he's said to be honest.

I agree with RVD.....he took the stick and is now justifying the faith shown by the board of directors. I think he's entitled to a little outburst.

TP could come out and say something similar, minus the death threats hopefully! I think he'll keep it shut though, wish it smashing by me.

Northwich, after personally seeing him (from about 15 yards) abuse the Stoke fans at the Brit, after his assistant assault a ball-boy and a first-aider, I justifiably think he's a vile character!

There's nothing in that article to particularly paint him as a dickhead though. He's just a whinging manager, and there are plenty of them.

He’s a whining cuntrag. You make decisions that are right for the team; it has nothing to do what is best for yourself. You are paid to do the best for the club.

That's a bit nit-picky WD - his throwaway use of the word "me" in reference to him and the team. He's just having a go back at the moaners who wanted him out because he's led them to a Wembley semi-final. Doesn't seem too unreasonable.

RVD, the bottom line for me is that managers are in a privileged position and they have to expect fans to have a moan if they so wish. They pay hard earned cash to follow there clubs and have a right to have a say (whether you believe its unjustified or not is irrelevant).
Tone’s taking more than his share of flack from Stokies even though we’re in with a great chance of promotion now. It would be easy for him to say to the press now that he doesn’t give a shit about the moaners or something similar to what Jones has said but he’s kept his own counsel.

I don't like Pulis for well recorded historical reasons, but he has learned his lesson about respecting the Stoke fans, making the whole team, on-field, off-field, top to bottom, come together and work for the common goal. I can't take that away from the man and he doesn't moan at the fans through the press. Dave Jones, on the other hand, seems to think he can say or do what he likes to whoever or whenever.

Fair play to Jones. I hope that if TP leads us to promotion, he lets rip with a volley twice as ferocious as that at the doubters.

There are quite a few TP doubters, but I don't believe anyone has sent him text messages asking him for a fight or threatening to kill him.

Don't agree WD. If you've got some fans on your back, then you're within your rights to have a pop back when you prove them wrong. They shouldn't give it if they can't take it.
It's like these wankers who cry to the police when a player they've been abusing all match scores and cups his ear to them.

He's got them to a high-profile semi-final at wembley that, win or lose, their fans will long remember. They're also still just about in with a shout of the play offs.
Given their off the field problems (loathe though I am to stick up for them or him, as he is a whinging bastard, make no mistake), that's a fairly respectable showing. Certainly not warranting death threats and text messages offering him to step outside.

The death threats are obviously completely out of order but IMO his rant is aimed at the fans moaning or booing at games.
That's our right.
It's my party and I'll fucking cry if I want to.

Fair enough. It's a tart who moans and boos but then can't take a bit of stick back though. What have they really got to moan about?
