When the connection drops again, click start the run, type cmd and click ok. When that opens up type ping 192.168.0.1 and see if you get a reply, then type ping www.yahoo.co.uk and again see if you get a reply. Let me know how you get on.

We've had a problem with Sky broadband for the past few months as well. It's no use phoning up their call centre, they just deny any problems their end (in one case it was their end but they denied it).
The main problem though was the plug of the modem we had. Turn off your plug by the mains and listen for a high pitched squeel as the electricity gets cut off. It was a fuse in the plug which was our problem, but of course, Sky are a crafty bunch and the plug itself was glued rather than screwed so we couldn't replace it.
Another thing to take into consideration, don't replace your modem with one from a shop. Sky Broadband isn't compatible with foreign modems, you have to use THEIR modem. We had to buy another from Sky themselves for £26 which is pretty steep for a bog standard modem. Although they did give us a useful tip.
Turn your modem off at night. Leaving it on 24/7 wears down the fuse in the plug and over heats the modem. Just switch it off when you don't need it and it'll last much longer.

Haha, if the plug is glued just cut it off and wire a new one, you can use your own router, you just need to hack the sky one to get your username and password from it and leaving it on 24/7 wears the fuse out? haha what a pisser.

If you have BT broadband and keep turning the router off you will never get a decent download speed. Mine has been switched on for over 5 years now, perhaps I should get a spare fuse ready.

To save the fuse in my Dyson, I crawl around on my hands and knees and suck the carpet, no bags needed.
