Me thinks not. we have secured JP on a great deal for SCFC. We have two very good keepers and i dare say Nash wouldnt let us down if he played. Defensively sound apart from when our full backs go forward. I dont think we have evolved quite enough to be wanting a Stephen Ireland as much as i rate the guy as lets face it he would be by passed by most of our play. Up front we have KJ,Ric,Tuncay, Walters, Mama coming back and at present we are creating loads of chances and sooner or later we will fucking hammer some one down at the Brit this season. I say wait until end of the season when we can hopefully get rid of some dead wood and maybe then invest in a quality Central midfielder.

Also you have stated we need a central midfielder. And as for potentially hammering someone where are you getting your stats from? Longton.

We have needed 2 full backs and 2 central midfielders for the past 3 seasons what will change this window? I'm thinking nothing will, hope I'm wrong.

We have lots of cover at Centre Back and up Front,we even have a second string of Central Midfielders but I'm not sure about the Full Back's. We have spent most of the season with people out of position playing Right Back so surely if we are short or TP does'nt like what we've got in that department we should possibly dip in.

Longton, no of course i would like two new full backs and a central midfielder, but for this season we are not going to finishing higher than 8 th anyway. And why the fuck do i need stats to suggets we will hammer someone soon. Do you go to the matches and where are your stats to suggets we wont thrash some one soon????

So long as we have weaknesses in the team (and we do) we should try to improve every window. It isn't essential, as we would almost certainly survive with this squad, but it is far better to try to improve - trying to stand still usually means that you fall back.

We need a regular goal scorer, the stats show that we havent got one

I agree but last year with Huth and Collins signing we actually weakened the full back positions! ;D

YES.
If not, fight against relegation is the only thing to play for.

the team is evolving and that should continue. It would be good to get a couple of new faces in, especialy if we lose any of the squad in january (which is quite likely I think) but we should trust the manager to only do the deals that he thinks will improve the squad. TP is keen to maintain the team spirit and that should see us in good stead

I neither have or can be arsed to find the stats to back this up,but i would wager that we are either bottom or second bottom on chances created pretty much every week

Yes we do, the league is so tight we are only a few bad results off a relegation battle and are far from safety. It's an extremely competitive league and there are no games where we are guaranteed points. Reading had a decent looking side but stood still and ended up getting relegated. We need a couple of fullbacks and a couple of CM's as soon as possible with a good proven goalscorer as a slightly less important addition we need to look at.

Our squad is stronger than at just about anytime in my living memory. I'm 43 but have very little memory of the Waddington era given my tender years at that time. Ours is a progressing squad but as soon a you stop progressing and looking to progress, decline is almost inevitable. We must continue to look to bring in better players within the financial constraints laid down by the chairman. We have already done a very good piece of business this window, I hope we do more but if we don't I certainly won't be panicing.

As pointed out above - it would be nice but we aint desperate so we dont need to gamble and we dont need to break the bank. Good bargaining position to be in really.

Bloody good bargaining by the club over the Pennant deal too. A Prem standard winger which he undoubtedly is, English and of his age for that money is an absolute steal.

Yes we do, if you stand still in this league then you get overtaken, we need a couple of players freshen it up, yes pennant was a great signing but he was here at the last window, so we need someone fresh, just to liven it up.

Our priority was to tie up Pennant, which was a success.
As bayern says, 2 full backs and 2 center midfielders have been on the oatcakes shopping list for the last 3 seasons. If they were a big priority in the managers eye he would have done something about it by now

This is going to be a really tough competitive year with someone probably getting relegated with over 40 points. Our system has been well sussed, so it's essential that we improve our central midfield passing and shooting to take some of the pressure off our wingers and provide a plan B. Two full backs with enough attacking ability to support the wingers would also be a massive step forward.

You never stand still if you don't have to. If we are led to believe Pulis has the funds at his disposal then he must strike in a position of strength, rather than weakness

It would be lovely if we could secure a left back and a central midfield player but we DON'T NEED to spend during this window.
We are well on course to beat last seasons points total with the squad we have and that would represent decent progress.
If the right players become available then great but it isn't an absolute must. I think Abdy will go and we will get a replacement but other than that I am not overly convinced that there will be too much movement and I certainly don't think there is as much going on as a certain other poster would have us believe.
Time will tell I guess.

unless there is a useful bargain to be had - e.g. Wheater at £2m (or less?) or maybe a tasty loan I think we should save our money till the back end of August when the best value is usually to be had

A central midfield player able to keep possession is more important than full backs at the moment. The full backs we have at the club are all good defenders but we do desperately need someone who can take a pass from the back four and keep possession when we're holding out for a win or draw. If we could sign one player in January it would be someone like Stephen Ireland.

You cannot stand still in the Premiership and not upgrading our midfield and LB is standing still. We're 3/4 of the way to having a very good Premiership side. Unfortunately the missing 1/4 could cause us problems if we don't improve it and until we've done so I won't be 100 percent sure that we'll be safe.

If I were Coates I'd only let Pulis spend if he ships some deadwood out.
Out - Whelan, Tonge, Soares, Shotton (loan), Davies (rip his contract up in front of his eyes and frogmarch him off Stoke City property), Tuncay (for the right money), Faye (would be sad to see him go)
In - Wheater, Bridge (loan), Ireland (loan)
Job done...................

I'd be chuffed to hell if we forgot about Ireland and signed a proper central midfielder.
