We all have our own ideas on who could do what in the team, for me despite the win against everton the cm was poor and didnt really do much until whelan came on, I thought differently at the beginning of the year but whitehead and delap are too casual and even their tackling yesterday wasnt indispensable. So anyways this is how id line up
Begovic Wilko Huth Shawcross Collins Faye Pennant Etherington Tuncay
Jones Fuller
I dont think there was a more intelligent footballer on the pitch yesterday than TUnny, there rarely is, his through ball to Jones was spot on if Jones had of kept onside. And Everton dominated midfield and looked more fluid until Tunc did come on, I think an attacking mid role would be great. It is time the fans and TP stopped worrying about what other teams could do to us and started making them worry about what we can do to them, especially at home. Faye has played defensive mid many times in his career for other teams, he's technically sound, a good passer, cracking tackle and reads the game, plus Tunc showed yesterday he can run box to box and help out. I dont think that this mid would be any more unbalanced than the whitehead delap partnership is. I even think that if we had this midfield on you could play eidur instead of fuller, who has lost his confidence, eidur and tunc could really link up well and by looking at him, he's not unfit now. That attack could cause any team a problem and against teams like man utd, spurs, chelsea and arsenal the worriers could say whelan and wilson could play there instead, both have a good distribution of the ball, better than what we are using now anyways, and can tackle.

But whitehead doesn't really do anything, the gap that is left by using two defensive midfielders and putting them right on the cb's feet is terrible. Teams like Blackpool and Fulham tore us apart because of this, the only reason everton didnt was because shawcross had an absolute blinder yesterday. That gap allows for a team to have 5-10 seconds of freedom to organise themselves before launching another assault and that is dangerous, I dont know any other team who does it in the prem and it could get us into trouble. In fact a lot of the time that gap had to be covered by jones and/or fuller who were good defensively yesterday, without them niggling at arteta and cahill we could have got slaughtered, and that isnt something we can expect on a regular basis from the two, the cm needs sorting, the tactic no longer works.

Yes we just won, but so what, before that we lost two home games with both of the on?? Not to drop them after that is fucking bonkers is it not?? They weren't the reason we won, and quite often the style of football we play when using them can lead to a crap and disappointing game where we do come out as second best. They are inconsistent and dont fill their role as a midfielder, that is to support an attack as well as help out the defence, even defensive midfielders do that.
