We must sign a left back this month, it is imperative.
Given TP's reluctance to play Higginbotham at left back, then it makes it even more important that we sign somebody who has some defensive competence and ability to make a 10 yard pass to a team mate.
How long can Collins continue to be a complete and utter liability until Pulis realises what a steaming pile of shite he is and drops him?
He just cannot defend. We might as well be playing Paul Williams at left back. He has no pace whatsoever which means that it takes him an age to get back into position and he gets completely done everytime a ball comes over his head or a wide player plays a one-two with a full back. On the occasions he does get tight on to players, he gets completely skinned due to his lack of mobility.
He backs off and backs off and backs off players who run with the ball and lets them get crosses in and it is absolutely crystal clear that the majority of threats come down our left flank. Then there is that rash side to his game. Like today and many other occasions where he has made completely uncecessary challenges and has got nowhere near the ball. He got carded today for it, and rightly so. I don't know why there was such uproar in the stands about him getting booked - it was a shocking challenge.
His best attribute is his heading. To be fair to him, he is decent in the air, but has a tendancy to completely switch off and head the ball back in to the middle of the pitch - straight back into the danger areas.
I don't expect our "full backs" to be David Beckhams on the ball, but surely he must be able to complete a 10 yard pass to a team mate. Tuncay was free on many occasions today but instead he decided that punting it straight out for a goal kick was the better option. Then he seemed to be indicating to Tuncay that he should be up the line to get these balls or that the only thing he would be doing is twatting it up the line.
Higginbotham has made a claim for a first team place today and I and many others are fed up of the calamitous concrete boots Collins. FUCK HIM OFF!

I don't slate Collins as much as you, but there were at least 3 times in the last quarter of the match when he could have played the simple ball 10 yards from him along the floor, but instead hoofed it.
Now I remember when Higgy used to play left back and I started a thread on this very board asking why Higgy and Wilko just hoof it. The replies were resoundingly "tactics". So either a) Danny C just hoofs it because that's all he knows, or b) he's being told to.
For the record though, I also think that's our most urgent position to fill

Why not bring Dicko back from his loan Saying that it doesn't seem like such a bad option. Whatever happened to his Stoke career? After the game at bolton on the first season in the prem we didnt see much of him after that ???

He was OK today. Granted his distribution was woeful but first and foremost I want him to defend and today he defended pretty well and did his job more than satisfactorily.
Higgy got better as the game went on but during their spell in the last 20 minutes of the first half, I thought Ryan carried him through. Second half, he was excellent.

For the record though, I also think that's our most urgent position to fill I think its a very safe bet to put the majority of the hoofing down to tactics. I've not got a problem with that. Quite often it is sensible play. Get rid of the danger, or get the ball to our target man - fair play. Neither Higgy or Collins are the greatest players on the ball but it seems that Wilko has managed to get the balance right between keeping possession and linking up with Pennant and getting rid or playing it long, not just swinging his boot at it aimlessly like Collins does.

Im glad its not just me who thinks this forgot about Dicko tbh. it is a bit odd how he hasn't even been given a chance, yet he surely earned his chance by getting us to the Premier League?!

This would be the same Dicko who regularly gets ripped to shreds in The Championship with Portsmouth?
If a player is struggling to cope in the lower leagues, he is not likely to fare any better in the Premier League. It is a shame because he has a great attitude and approach but he is unlikely to have a future at this level.

Forgive me if I am being thick but do you genuinely believe that last comment Rob or are you indulging in a spot of fishing?

He is toss.
Cahill far post header which was headed back across goal and nearly dropped in first half, where was Collins again?
He is Always to far inside leaving HIS MAN open,at times today he was Very lucky we did not concede because of his poor positional sense.
With Wilko he gets tight and yes gets beaten but alot of the time he will get tackles in blocks in to stop a cross coming in.something that Collins and Huth when right-back NEVER do.
THATS THE DIFFERENCE.

Collins was awful today. I'm happy with the long ball if your in a bit of danger but when there is a simple pass right in front of you, i really don't understand what goes through his mind.
Also when he is high up the pitch and asked to put a cross in, do one of the following .... low and hard or Head height (penalty spot)
And not ...hoof it in with so much height it takes 2 minutes to come back down, by which time, all opposing team players are in a comfortable position to clear.
But don't me started on some professional footballers inability to put a half decent cross in

On a separate note, what club has a quality left back that they are willing to sell/need to sell/want to sell and within our wage bracket and transfer funds. Young Gareth Bale at Spurs Seems To Be Causing Quite A Stir

Yet more crap officiating by the idiots with the whistle and flag. MOTD clearly showed a two handed push in the back by Cahill on Collins.

I'm not going to be too harsh on him, we kept a clean sheet after all but can this myth that he has superior distrbution to Higgy be laid to rest now. It's as hilariously wide of the mark notion as a Collins pass itself.
