On Sunday night the mood on this board was very positive amd things were really looking good for Stoke. But now, there are a succession of negative posts about, some of which come across as a knee jerk reaction to just one bad day at the office. I know we were poor today, that TP got it wrong, and that we'd have expected points from a home game against a struggling Fulham, but we don't just become a bad side overnight. On Sunday night, Whitehead and Delap were 'immense' and doing a great job for us. Tonight, they are both dreadful, laboured, and we are all sick and tired of the cage. The cage was a brilliant tactic on Sunday evening, wasn't it? On Sunday night, Walters was doing really well and deserving of his place in the side. Tonight he is nothing but lazy and ineffective. On Sunday night, everyone was convinced that Kenwyne was playing ok, and would come good for us. Tonight, he is useless and would rather not have been on the pitch. On Sunday night, Collins was solid and reliable, whereas tonight he is being slated and described as not good enough, and the cat calls for a new left back have returned.
Come on guys, good players don't become bad players in 48hours, and a good team don't become a bad team in 48 hours either. We've had a bit of set back today but, let's be honest, with the players Fulham have, they shouldn't be where they are. As much as we all hate Murphy, I bet there's very few on here that wouldn't have him in our team. It's not the end of the world to lose today, and, as I hope my post demonstrates, things can change very quickly in football. Who knows, Whitehead could be hailed as our Fabregas come Saturday night after an impressive win against Everton. So lets all just take stock of the situation, realise that we'll be fine this year, and that players who are great on Sunday night, don't just become bad ones by Tuesday night just because of one bad performance.

Its the rollercoaster ride that being a Stoke fan gives you. I've been on the ride for nearly 50 years and have enjoyed most of it. At the moment its as good a ride as it was in early 70s just prior to the Cup win and double FA cup semi finals. So hold on tight folks because, imo, the ride will continue and get more exciting.

I know what you mean - a rollercoaster ride that does your head in on nights like these, but makes your day on days like Sunday.

I've also supported our beloved Stoke for near on 50 years, but what annoys us is the ineptitude of the manager, when things are going wrong. He at times does not seem to see it.

take a look at the "Wilson's goal" thread, i asked for a different midfield and was slated.
the current midfield is shockingly shite, it makes a mockery of top division football, our 2 first choice CM players are not particuarly good at well, anything.
At least one should be able to pass well and at least one should be able to tackle well, thats basics. what do ours do?

Just what I've always said, but it's more often than 'at times'. With two games in three days, there should be changes in the team. You don't start two winable games with Fuller on the bench for both games. Fresh legs in midfield would also have been nice for this game. But I'm sorry to say that TP hasn't got the tactical brain to see this, or even at some games dare to take a little more risk at home, trying to score more goals, or attack more when we have the lead. Tuncay and Gudjohnsen could also have been a weapon in this game. We're to easy to read by other teams when you never change the game plan or dare to use the players in the squad who can do something else.

Burton anybody who described Whitehead and Rory as 'immense' on Sunday are either deluded or (as I suspect) are in need of extending their vocabulary a wee bit. This evening you've got people claiming Rory was MOM (which he wasn't) yet you're focussing only on those people who are critical of him. In effect ... you've taken some extreme viewpoints from the messageboard and placed them out of context to create (in my opinon) a pretty ropey post. Winning matches papers over the cracks, losing matches exposes them, however the cracks remain pretty consistent ... Our full backs aren't really up to scratch and neither are our central midfield two.

I'm not saying there haven't been any positive comments on here tonight, just that the negative ones, such as Collins isn't good enough, seem a bit unecessary given that 48 hours ago that wasn't the case, and may not be the case come Saturday night either as things always seem to change so quickly

The point is that the vast majority of people believe that he isn't good enough - period, regardless of what he did last Saturday or what he will do next Saturday. Just because people acknowledged that he wasn't too bad against Blackburn doesn't then make them hypocrites for suggesting he isn't good enough at other times.

Isn't this the cruel irony of being a mid-table side??
When we were struggling in the Championship for consistency prior to promotion, the same thing would happen. We'd beat some decent sides and pick up a bit of form and then lose to Barnsley or Southend at home.
Fast forward 5-6 seasons and we're doing it in the top flight. It just shows our progress though in a short space of time. I'm as pissed off as everybody else but we are building for the future and unfortunately we are going to get frustrating performances and defeats to the likes of Blackpool and Fulham until we become the finished article.
We all acknowledge that there are areas of the team (fb's and cm) that need improving but the management are working on that because they do see it too.

That’s football, it’s one big Bipolar Coaster.
Win one, everyone’s happy. Lose one, it’s time to kidnap Tony’s cat and send in the ransom note.
I reserve the right to slate everyone when we were as shit as we were yesterday.
I also reserve the right to praise the same set of players when we beat Everton 5-0 on Saturday.
