I'm just playing devils advocate here gents and god forbid what has happened to the Toon and Blackburn's managers should happen to TP but is anyone thinking about a change of football style @ Stoke? This would obviously mean a change of manager as TP's style of play has been proven time and again...'never relegated'... So I put it to you, the great and the good of the legendary Oatcake MB, would you welcome a new manager who adopts a different style of football (see Blackpool - no money, no hope but one of the most entertaining teams in the Top Flight) or are we all 'happy to be in the premier league'? It'll never catch on poppet

the only reason to evolve our style of play would be to move up into the top 7 of the league on a constant basis. otherwise, if mid table and flirtation with the higher up is wanted it will stay the same. however, the team of the 70's showed we have played a more skilled type of football (but that was a long time ago) and that's pretty much what happened to them, staying up in the higher part of the table that is and good cup runs too

I see Mr Deluded has found this thread. So if Stoke changed their style of play they would regularly finish in the top 7? Let's dismantle your argument using facts, a novel idea I appreciate, but in this case I think they prove my point (and disprove yours ) I know you consider 9th to 14th to be "Mid Table Mediocrity" but to keep it simple for you I will ask you how many time did Stoke finish above half way in the glorious 70s? You don't need to look it up. It was actually twice. We finished 13th, 17th, 15th, 5th, 5th, 12th & 21st. In the 14 seasons under Waddo we were in Division 1, we managed to finish in the top half of the table 5 times. In fact during our 148 year history, we have never been a club who have "regularly been a "Top 7" club. So if we changed to play like say West Ham or West Brom we would become a Top 7 team and if that is all it takes why aren't West Ham & West Brom regularly in the Top 7?

Delap has got to go, sits back in defence too much leaving central midfield there for the taking, get Wilson on and Tuncay on with Jones and dump the lazy sod Fuller and we have a winning combination. Alternatively, stick to booting it up and we'll sink into the Chumps in a couple more seasons. Wise up Pulis before you send us into the relegation zone with your negative tactics.

Just remember where we have come from and what we have got.
This football will carry on evolving when we change the midfield and fullbacks, but this takes time.
We are still in the Premiership, after almost three years, and getting bigger and better as I write these words.
We will get those players, just be patient!
Look at teams like Charlton, Aston Villa etc, to understand this.
Football is not X factor, you cannot have everything straight away, it takes time.
I know it's a minority, in their thinking that they are some kind of football visionares, demanding players such as Arsimendi and Wilson to come in and beat teams like Fulham week in, week out. This is not reality. Fulham, Blackburn and Wigan have been in this league alot longer than we have, and deserve respect.
It's great we now have expectations to beat these teams, but these same expectations are due to one man, maybe two.
Pulis and Coates.
By the way, those so called bum signings of Soares, Tongue and Davies were during the first season. We have progressed year on year. Please grow up, and at least try to show some kind od empathy to how far we have come.

No, I don't want us to become the next Charlton/West Brom. Fulham maybe a decent role model for us

Excuse me if I've been in a coma and dreaming it, but I was sure that TP had already fooled me by doing precisely that.
Never did I think to see two wingers and, in case of Pennant's possible loss, be thinking of replacing of with Larsson, rather than use it as an excuse.
It's far from perfect. but does show that TP is more open to different methods and peronnel than I'd given him credit for. Of course it would help to have the strikers firing, even shooting first time, like Stevenage did today. Also to have that elusive creative midfielder arriving soon and a full back who can defend properly and even direct a pass. Hopefully, those will come, in time.
Yes much to wish for but plenty to elicit gratitude, too.

Wilson is the answer to the creative midfielder problem
But yes we have evolved and we continue to do so.
