My sister showed me a new top that she bought from ebay yesterday. She bought it has a vintage top and she liked the design of the top. The seller was from Essex, but left a note in with the top saying that it was originally purchased from Bourne Sports in Burslem. My sister presumed it was a retro cycling shirt, but when I first saw the top it looked like a 1970's Stoke away shirt, but could anybody on here say if they believe it is or not from the picture? The design looks like one of the old Stoke 70's shirts and with it originally coming from Bourne Sports also seems to tie in with the thinking that it may well be a classic Stoke away which I believe was not used very often. img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pict0515sz2.jpg

It was a third choice kit, c. 1974-76. Our away kit was red and white (same style as this), somewhat bizarrely, so we sometimes had to change to this one.
I thought it would have an Admiral logo on to be sure it's an original though.

the one in Smeegs' picture is a classic, but never the home shirt, rather a first choice away. The home one is shown below. Bring it back when we're back challenging for Europe? The only drawback is that its strong colours make it an unsuitable alternative to the main kit. Note we never had a badge in them days. is the home one of that era

Thanks for the info apb1. It probably was a replica of the Stoke shirt sold by Bourne Sports some years ago. It's quite funny that it was bought as a vintage shirt by my sister without her knowing that it was actually a Stoke shirt and even the Essex seller must of thought it was worth mentioning that it was in a sense coming back "home" after originally coming from Burslem.

She was probably subconsciously drawn to it by some deep-down childhood memory of Mike Pejic looking pretty bloody gorgeous in just that outfit...

She's only in her twenties apb1 so no Mike Pejic memories but the subconscious drawing to it may be right. Stoke City is always in the back of the mind.

As a kid I had an away shirt like that, but seem to remember more white and thinner black in th diagonal stripe. Could be wrong though!

Am pretty sure we wore that away v Ajax Absolutely spot on! We wore it at Ajax, with light blue shorts, and were also spotted in it for a league game at Newcastle and an FA Cup match away at Liverpool. A real stunner of a shirt but very rarely worn, as we usually went with the red, white and black version, as shown in Smeegs' post.

And at Sheff Utd at the end of that season - don't think we ever wore it again

It was my favourite shirt and I used to wear it all the time in my early teens.
I think I've still got it somewhere; I'll have to have a rummage through my drawer marked "Old footy tops". Ah memories!

You'll find it is a 70s Stoke away top. Thats the home version ... I had that one, it was a beauty and our first change kit as has been pointed out allready. We wore the yellow one rarely notably in the classic game at Anfield, seen on the Match of the Day '70's DVD.
