I'd be quite happy to see Whelan go. He's not going to break into our side anytime soon. I know he has produced the occasional moment of quality, Villa and Spurs away for example, but he doesn't do it often enough. He's certainly not got the creative qualities people think he has, he's actually at his best in a deeper role breaking things down, the way Trapattoni uses him.
1 million-2 million would be a reasonable fee I think, as he still has 3 years left on his contract.

What would be a fair price for Whelan? Around £3.5M?

Whelan isn't worth anywhere near 3-4 million. He might have some Premier League experience, but it's hardly been fantastic form he's produced is it? He's been a bit-part player for us since we've got promoted whose offered very little when he's been called upon. Michael Ricketts has Premier League and International experience, it doesn't automatically make him a good player.

What would be a fair price for Whelan? Around £3.5M? In todays market it must be at least 4.5Million plus Liam Lawrence.

There is no point basing Glenn's worth on the prices we have paid for CM's.
We certainly seem to have over valued Arismendi and Wilson. I am still hopeful that Wilson will turn into a decent player for us but he has a long way to go to prove he is worth Liam Lawrence alone never mind extra cash and Kitson.
Depending on the length of Glenn's contract I think we would hope for between £1-2M if we chose to sell.
I would keep him.

Whelan's a good player and would be brilliant in another team as far as i'm concerned.
He's awesome for Ireland but I don't think the role Pulis asks him to play suits his game enough.
1.5 million would be a good deal for both clubs, whoever signs him. He's certainly too good to be rotting on the bench for the whole of his career.
He's certainly never going to make it here, although he was very good in the promotion season, his ball retention in the Championship was a big factor in getting us over the line.

walters and wilson 7 mill combined, whelan got be worth ten mill at least[/quote Fuller 500k, Jones 8 mill says it all. Players are worth how much you want to pay, and players are also better at different clubs, Whelan could go somewhere and turn out to be a top player. This is what annoys me about the Tuncay debate though, he's clearly got a lot of ability but then people say "We will rue the day when he leaves, he'll do amazing for someone else". The "someone else" is the whole point! EDIT - We did sell Olofinjana for 3 million remember, I almost forgot about that! It was to the fools of Hull though.

I'd ask for 2.5 million minimum. They have the cash and if they want him that bad they'll pay the price.

Whelan is never going to be consistent enough to warrant a regular starting place in our midfield. If and only if the price was right and we used the money towards a BETTER replacement then i'd be happy to see him sold to the dingle shyte.
What we don't want to do is lose him for a stupid fee (ala Lawrence to Pompey and Wilson to stoke) and be out of pocket and no better forward squad wise.
Get £3m for him, put another £5m together and go out and buy the central midfielder we so desperately require.
