How dare we highly rate one of our key players.. I fucking despair He is a player most club's supporters would rate highly but from what i've seen he wont be going to a top four club any time soon as many on here suggest. Thank God somebody who has been watching him week in week out for more than 3 years has come on to put us right. Thank you. My saviour.

My saviour. it's better feedback than some stoke fan gave to one of our defenders with that picture when i'm sure he hasn't seen too much of Bramble either. Calm down i'm just offering a "rest of the league's" type view on Shawcross to help dilute the view from your rose tinted glasses.

So, in conclusion:
1) If Sunderland had had the foresight to compete with us over the signature of Ryan, rather than actually handing us the money to go and buy him by buying Higginbotham off us for the same price and then never playing him, they probably would have got him. They were a Premiership team managed by some bloke who used to run around kicking people for Ryan's former club. There is almost no doubt that they would have been a more attractive option.
2) The only way that Shawcross would actually sign for Sunderland is if he had a crisis of form over this season and his stock dropped immensely, with him also having a big argument with the management that means we want to sell him. To be fair, that doesn't sound entirely unlike what happened with Jones at Sunderland last year. However, if he keeps up the form that he's been in since about a quarter of the way through the 2008/09 season, then this scenario is especially unlikely because he's been one of the best performing defenders in the league and has never once looked out of place. I don't mean to be too gushing, but every single week he's been getting 7 and 8 out of 10 performances, he's been absolutely top class. This means that a team, if not of Manchester United's stature, but at least Tottenham Hotspur's stature will be in for him at some point. Indeed, it is widely thought that Tottenham have had a passing interest in Shawcross in the last few transfer windows.
3) Sunderland have Bramble, Turner and Mensah - three very good centre-backs. I may have missed a fourth. It would make no sense for Steve Bruce to come up with the kind of money required to buy Shawcross whatsoever, when he's already well stocked in that department. Given a choice between spending £20,000,000 on Shawcross, or two new full-backs and two new wingers, which do you think he'd go for?
Of course, the stupid thing is, I could have told you all of that 17 pages ago.
