Dont really think he has had that tough a job to be fair. He was blessed with the best accademy in the country with the likes of beckham , scholes , neville bros etc coming through , plus lots of cash.
The gaffers that deserve the credit are people like Holloway and Pulis.
Would Fergie have won promotion with Blackpool or Burnley? and made such a success with resources there?

If it wasn't for Mark Robins he'd have been gone years ago. Would the shit still have had the same success? Probably.

That it proved you wrong? I hate Man Utd as much as the next person, but to suggest Alex Ferguson isn't a fantastic manger is just ludicrous. He is currently top of the league is he not, with a game in hand, with a worse squad IMO that any of the other top 5.

Has he had no say in nurturing those youngsters and bringing them through though? When he took over Man Yoo hadn't won the league for 20+ years. He turned them into the dominant force in English football. When Blackburn and Newcastle were spending hand over fist, he took a chance on youth and won everything going. He's one of the greats.

I belive he dropped on, do you think fergie ran the youth set up and coached them through?
He was lucky to inherit such a great set up whos scouts basically robbed every promising youngster going.
Anybody is only as good as the tools at there disposal. And fergie has had some sharp tools ( and very good coaches) to help him

He didn't have to use those players (plenty of managers don't seem to value their youth systems) and in fact some at the time derided him for doing so - yet he's helped bring them through, keep them on the straight and narrow (by and large) and reaped the dividends. Again, Man Yoo were not the force they are now when he took over. They'd won the odd FA Cup here and there over the previous 20 years and not done much else.

So money money money and being the biggest club in the world didnt help him? They weren't the biggest club in the world when he went there. They weren't even the biggest club in England. Also, while in the 2000s they were up there with the biggest spenders, they built their power base in the 1990s largely on the back of youth - Giggs, Beckham, the Nevilles, Scholes etc, as well as shrewd signings, like Schmeichel and Cantona, for a relative pittance. Yes there were big money signings, like Keane, Cole, Yorke, etc, but consider what Blackburn were spending, and what Newcastle were spending. Pretty sure Man Yoo didn't spend anything close to them at that time.

I think if you look at the club that have spent the most since the formation of the premier league Manchester Utd will be streets ahead, maybe Chelsea could run them close but i doubt they will have spent more

The most damning thing you can say about the Premier League is that once you're in it, it becomes swiftly apparent that Ferguson is nowhere near the biggest twat in it. He barley makes the top ten in the utter wanker stakes.

He has done a fantastic job.....credit where it is due Huge respect and congratulations. Won everything (apart from Autoglass and Watney Cup) and uncovered/trained up some true gems in Beckham, Giggs, Scholes etc. Also worth pointing out that even players who don't quite make it at Old Trafford (Richardson, Shawcross etc) can go on to have great careers elsewhere

Some people find it hard to believe but the shit were often a mid table team before Ferguson was appointed. He has effectively built the club into what it is now. His success is astonishing.
Best ever British manager IMHO.
