Interestingly, if this went to a court of law, I think Stoke would have a very good chance of taking all three points. There are three issues here:
1. The rules 2. The advantage to Wednesday 3. The disadvantage to Stoke.
You can argue that because of a breach of the rules Wednesday were advantaged and Stoke we disadvantaged. This has nothing to do with the teams around them. To enforce the rules you need to undo the effect of the breach, which would be to award Stoke the Match and all three points and to dock Wednesday their point. You then need to penalise the breach through further points deduction or fine.
You cannot just give a warning simply becasue you would have to give every team in the land the same warning if they did the same and it would open up the floodgates to abusing this rule. You could instigate a fine as punishment, but that does not really right the wrong and it still leaves teams free to abuse the system and steal a march on their competitors and let them get away with it for a fine.
The only argument in opoosition would be that this breach did not have an advantage / disadvantage element. But given that Stoke left out two loaness of the calibre of Gallagher and Zakuani in order to comply with this very rule, you have to say that there is a strong case.
Unfortunately we are dealing with the FA not the courts.

I have answered the question, Stoke drew and the result should stand. Your just frustrated because you didn't win and are using this technicality to try and get yourself some undeserved points. Deep down many of you know the draw should stand as that was the result you got on the day, don't you think it would taint any achievements this season if the FL were to award you with bonus points? You haven't answered the question. Let me remind you what is was: "If this had happened to you, are you honestly saying you'd sit back and say Bristol should get nothing?"If you are saying that you would, then fair play to you, but I guarantee you'd be in a very small minority of fans. Two points could make all the difference come May, and whether we believe we deserve them or not, it won't stop us trying. Nor would it you. For what it's worth though, be it right or wrong, I agree with your point about the risk of it tainting the outcome of the Championship. And what with us being footballing Antichrists in the eyes of most of the national media, the press / SKY boys wouldn't need much of an excuse to stick the boot in. Of course if it were Brazil who stood to benefit, then I'm sure there'd be a very different reaction!

Playing the game again is an horrific idea.. The last thing we need is another game to pick up injuries, suspensions and burn the players out even more – when would we fit it in..
The powers that be have to investigate how Sheff Wed came to brake the rules.. If it is a genuine mistake, then we will have to put it down to one of those things, and let the result stand…Would be unfair on our rivals if we were awarded 3 points… Why in this day & age of technology things like this happen in the first place is a mystery to me…
This sort of thing & referees turning up late for matches could only happen to Stoke, at such a crucial time too – hope the gods aren’t conspiring again..

"Answer the question, yes or no - would you simply sit back and be happy if Bristol City were winning but drew a match under the same circumstances?"

As i just said on another thread, it's fair enough Fining Swansea,(first instance) leeds i'm not so sure .
BUT then WEDNESDAY???
Surely the more times this happens the bigger the severity of the punishment as this has alerted teams and they should know of the rule/punishments!!!

Lets face it all we will get and deserve is the point won on the pitch nothing more. SW will get a fine and may just lose the point to appease those struggling around them. Easy way out for the Fl and in all probability a fair decision. Lets forget it and concentrate on thumping Palarse and Brizzle.

For example, if Huckerby was on loan at Norwich and he was one of 6 in the team, and you drew 1-1, are you telling me you wouldnt at least look at the possibility? If not, your a liar. SGS

I dont give a monkeys uncle, if any decision by the football league, makes other teams unhappy if we were awarded the game (therefore 3 points)
Any unhappiness should be directed at Sheffield Cheating Wednesday, not Stoke City FC who played by the rules.
We already know the FA will fudge the issue, as they always will and do.

we wont get anything from it
and to be perfectly honest, i wouldnt want to either... imagine a scenario where we made auto by 2 points, would you be really chuffed with the konwledge that it came from an appeal? .. or would it take the shine off the seasons performance.
Wendies cheated... that isnt in dispute. Fine them, dock them, whatever... and lets move on

We won't get any extra points as it would just cause more mess for the FA . No doubt Bristol City , Hull , West Brom and Watford would start bleating to the FA that we were getting points that we didn't win .
sheff wed will be punished with a fine and maybe some points deducted but we won't benefit .

I'm not sure so correct me if I'm wrong but if a loanee scored how do we know if thats not the player that would have been left out if Wednesday realised the mistake of selecting too many prior to kickoff. Therefore couldn't have equalised.

It has to be 'fair' on both parties, just a fine would anger other relegation threatened clubs, dock a point off weds would lead to SCFC replying unfair--so we must wait and see.
