So who's best, Ronaldo or Messi? Messi plays for the better team, no doubt about it but Ronaldo is just as good a player on his day. *As long as 'his day' doesn't happen to fall on any occasion when his team (be it Manchester United, Real Madrid or Portugal) are playing an important game. I've yet to see Ronaldo turn in a 'world class' performance when it has really been needed. He's done nothing at all in his 3 clasico games, was barely involved when Man Utd lost the CL final to Barcelona in 2009, disappeared when Man Utd got knocked out of the CL at the San Siro and failed again this summer to stand out in a fairly mediocre world cup. The best player in the world should be someone who can raise his teams performance when they need him to. Ronaldo never does.

I watched that final again last month and Messi, Xavi and Iniesta ran the show. Seriously, watch it again and tell me he was 'shite' and 'may as well have not been on the pitch'. Read the following match report if you need reminding... www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/5394857/Manchester-United-0-Barcelona-2-Champions-League-final-2009-match-report.htmlAnd that's not to mention his performances in his other 'big' games...

Messi was nothing like he was tonight. That game was controlled by Xavi and Iniesta. I remember feeling disappointed about his performance that night. But we all have our own opinions.

Sounds like the usual Arsenal description, and yet that gets frowned on... So was the game brilliant because Barca thumped Madrid 5, or was it because Madrid were shite so it was easy for Barca, same as it was easy for ManU to twat 7 past Blackburn..? Just curious, i didn't bother watching..

I cant see how it can be a brilliant game for a neutral when a team has been dicked 5-0, how is that a competitive game? for me, a brillinat game is 2 teams both playing well and it being close

True he played better tonight but now he is the focal point of the team whereas back then he was still only 20 and playing in the shadow of Samuel Eto'o. If you'd have simply said that he wasn't THE stand out player that night then i'd probably not have batted an eyelid but claiming he was shite is a ridiculous claim.

So would I, Spanish football isn't bad to watch really it's just not even close to being as exciting as the prem. Unlike Italian football, which I can't watch for more than 5 minutes before I fall asleep unless it's a big game. Sevilla are a good team to watch, and they normally produce a decent atmosphere too. And I'd pay to watch Villarreal just to watch Giuseppe Rossi play.

I watched it down the pub with a couple of mates, one is a rugby fan and he even thought it was a first class performance and some of the best football he'd seen. It was a hammering due to the quality of the Barcelona play, they were at another level.

I guess it depends on what you were looking for. If you wanted a competitive fixture it wasn't for you but if you wanted to see football played at it's very best then you'd be searching long and hard to find something better...

Slightly condescending and very patronising but there you go... Its about opinions petal, some folk may think a blood and thunder League 1 game is the ultimate, some folk may prefer the Serie A slowly slowly slowly tactical approach... Just because its made you jizz that doesn't cancel out anyone elses opinion.. I had a bad Paella once so it clouds my judgement...

To be honest give me the sheer endeavour and spirit of our team, club and fans anyday.
Watching Stoke nowadays is almost the only football I watch. I truly cant get excited or wound up about anything else. Im sick of being told, what is great football, "ooh spain, play lovely neat passing football", or "cor, did you see how many passes Citeh, just made to each other", "Barcelona are from another planet", and Wenger "We dont deserve this treatment, because of the way we play". And dont get me started on England and 2nd rate players earning £250,000 a week!!!!
Its all a load of bollox, the only football that matters is winning football, dont matter how you do it, but just win, always has been, always will be. If you can do it with a bit of style great, if you hoof it long, then defend like your life depends on it, great again, but WIN.
And Bayern, I aint having a pop at you, but was there any better football, than the play that led to Ric's chance that he put just wide on Saturday, or Tunny's deft back heel to Ethers for the goal? Doubtful, and were a bunch of hoofers apparently.

Why does it have to be a comparison? I love the way we play but I also love the way Barcelona play. And I hated the way Spain played in the World Cup, that was boring tippy tappy shit.
As for the final question there were flicks and passing like that all game and it's what I expect from Barcelona. That's how they play, superb technical skill all over the pitch with every player possessing the ability to do what Tuncay did. And I'm not belittling us because I love the way we play and don't expect us to play like Barcelona.

He really is a world class player and for me at least as good as Messi.

I have to agree, it was mesmerizing watching Barcelona hold the ball for minutes and then send passes 30 and 40 yards through the defense for goals. Madrid could do nothing to stop them, and they are filled with the best money can buy. I was rooting against Barca at the beginning, and by the end I had about as much respect for them as I have had for any 90 minutes of football I've ever seen.
