The staggering deal that makes Ameobi the most expensive loanee in English club history Stoke are so desperate to get into the Premier League they agreed to pay Newcastle a £575,000 'transfer fee'for their loan of Shola Ameobi, even though he may only be at the club for six weeks. It's a staggering deal that makes Ameobi the most expensive loanee in English club history. And the final figure for the striker, who has not scored for nearly 18 months, will approach £1million if Stoke go up via the play-offs, with a bonus due to Newcastle on promotion. But City chairman Peter Coates said: 'We wouldn'twant to look back and think we haven't had a go. We have done a deal and taken that risk. There are no guarantees but we're trying not to miss out.' In addition to the down-payment to Newcastle, Stoke will also meet the player's estimated £25,000-a-week wages until the end of the season on May 4. He will stay at the Britannia Stadium if the club reach the play-off final on May 24 www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=549508&in_page_id=1779

Wonder what Pearson is on, from what I saw today, he could be the difference for us in ensuring a top two spot

On today's show, he puts himself about but struggles to create space for a shot and doesn't seem to know the right moment to shoot - which is the difference between the ordinary and the great. Please Ameobi, prove me wrong.

if he scores the goal that gets us promoted then he's worth 10 times that, if he doesn't then it's a waste of money - but at least we gave it our best shot!
he made some pretty good touches yesterday, seems very strong and turns defenders well. he hesitated in front of goal though and wasn't sharp enough when it mattered.
A partnership of Ameobi and Fuller could potentially be the best strike force in the division

Crikey, Coates has gone for it, hasn't he? He's backed Pulis to the absolute hilt. There won't be many teams carrying a bigger wage bill than us at the moment, it'll be colossal Lawrence's new deal Fuller's new deal Griffin's long-term deal which must be close/at 5 figures a week as well. Nash on Prem money Ameobi Pearson must be qat the top of the tree in our wage scale Whelan must be on astronomical money too. Gallagher Cort as a 1m signing Shawcross mustn't be on peanuts

Its what we have been asking for all season, and the men in charge have delivered, he has played 1 game give him a chance if we would have been awarded the penalty, we would be saying ameobi did well to get the penalty, Fuller and Ameobi up front against Palarse will get us back on track with 3 points !

Fair play to Peter Coates but are we crazy?
25k a week + 500,000 for just six games on a player who hasn't played let alone scored all season!!!
We might as well have signed Ebanks Blake for that, or am I just being negative?

Pearson cost derby £750K and jewell is to let him sign for Stoke for 1.5 mill, he says in the Express and Star it's good business for the rams.

What a rip off. Ameobi is not worth 25k a week, espc as the signing on fee is 575k.

This has got to be the most amazing deal in our history. It's bloody breathtaking. Could end up costing us well over 1m for 6 weeks. Mind-bending

Yes but we get plenty a million for going up so Coates et al can only be praised for giving it a good go.
No regrets from their point of view.
£25,000 a week will be nowt if he scores the winner that takes us up.

If he doesn't get the ball in the net on a few occasions, he should personally pay back every penny, plus interest.

well done to coates hes really going for it this time, if we don't go up its not because we havnt spent. Lets just hope that coates gamble pays off because that is alot of money for six weeks if ameobi helps us into the prem you have coates to thank. It was not to long ago when people were saying coates wont dig deep and invest in stoke he's certainly showed now that he wants to push forward and started putting his hand in his pocket.

If Ameobi had say gone to Watford or Bristol on a similar package- no doubt this MB would have been crammed with folk saying they're showing ambition and we're not etc. A staggering deal that shows we're having a right good go. If it fails we can't be accused of not trying

Look at this another way. Current club valuation has got to be £25m plus now with purchase of Brit and Mich, little bank borrowing and real prospects of promotion. With promotion add £10m-15m on that valuation. Now the Ameobi investment seems to make sense. What I don't understand is the financial structure of the deal with sign-on fee for loan, when Keegan is "supposed" to be mates with Peter Coates. No doubt there's an agent involved somewhere.

Fuck me fire Stoke.
What a waste of fucking money!
Surely we could have done better than Ameobi for that kind of wedge?
