I was quite impressed with him yesterday, he ran the show in the first half and nearly scored a screamer.
I wouldn't mind him here in January. Tall, cage midfeilder, young, eye for goal, just what were looking for.
Thoughts?

I thought he was decent. I thought Brazil were better than normal all round to be honest even though they barely mustered a shot worthy of the name.
They have a bit of a dilemma I think. Odemwinge is clearly a very good player but up front on his own, he is isolated massively and they struggle to get any support to him. In midfield, they are neat and tidy but it is the 5 they play in there that enabled them to dominate the midfield against us.
If they released a midfielder and got Odemwinge some support, I suspect that they would get overrun and get hammered most weeks.
A difficult balancing act for them I guess but who cares. Once again we beat them and we clearly weren't at our best.

It's not about signing him imo, it's about having the scouts that know about these players in Europe that we can sign. 'Castle have that Tiote and WBA have Mulumbu, both fantastic and both bought from the continent. Mulumbu was apparenly 175k and Tiote was apparently 3.5 million.

Isn't Tiote that guy who started dribbling in his own box which inevitably led to a goal being conceded?

He did, he has been very good this season though barring that.

I agree with you about how we should now be looking to spend money on some sort of scouting system. Especially now that we've got a good enough squad to survive comfortably without throwing millions at it.
There seems to be a rich vein of talent that for some reason or another, we're refusing to tap into.

And it's not like these sort of players aren't Your stereotypical Pulis players, they couldn't be more perfect if they tried. Seems odd to me but what TP does works.

It works, yeah but at what cost?
I'm no PHW but it really irritates me that he's too stubborn/timid/inexperienced to go abroad and look for these players. It must burn a hole in PC's wallet when we spend 5 mil on Deano when we could of gotten someone using the scouting the system that is;
- Younger. - Cheaper wages. - Low transfer fee.
Of course, there's a risk in bringing unknown talent into a league this demanding but teams often find gems from nowhere that both perform superbly for their club and fetch a nice transfer if/when sold on.
I just feel now, with the squad that we've got, it's time to broaden our scouting network and make it somewhat of a priority. Football doesn't begin and end in the Premier League and that's something our club need to discover soon.

I agree completely, it is something that we really do lack in and are way behind the rest of the Premier League really with it. Exploiting the foreign and having an excellent academy makes sense for a club of our stature. Buy low and sell high would be the plan alongside buying the tried and tested. And we are in a great position to try it. It would be interesting to know what sort of European scouting network we have. Gary Penrice was our European scout but apparently he doesn't work for us any more.

I don't really think anyone knows about Stoke's scouting system, which I guess sums it up pretty well. It's fairly non-existent.
Say if Wigan got relegated, it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to try and lure some of their scouting staff to the Brit with a few thousand and a couple of Wright's thrown in for good measure.
On the academy front, we need to be learning from the likes of Everton on how to do it properly. Year after year they seem to be producing talent on a budget that I feel we can realistically match.
My perfect January transfer window would be the signing of Pennant and a few million thrown at the scouting and academy programs. We can address the issues of full backs (although Danny Collins is amazing and you love him ;D ) and centre mids in the summer when more clubs will be looking to sell and we've had 6 months of searching the globe for some quality to go in either the squad or into the youth development.

I do love Danny Collins, again I agree with everything You've put. The training ground is a great start to what could happen and I think (know) that the clubs hierarchy (at board level) have high hopes for the future of the academy and that's what the new developments are for. God and only knows what TP thinks of that but he isn't renound for his pro youth policy. It just makes football and financial sense.

If it isn't Pulis' area of expertise then someone needs to be brought in at some level that values scouting/youth as their priority. (I'm not talking about replacing Pulis of course)
But something certainly needs to be done. For a club with our kind of finical infrastructure and facilities, our youth programs and foreign scouting programs simply aren't good enough.
Anyway I'm off to bed mate.

Agreed about Mulumbu, thought he was the best player on the pitch and looked like he'd be a great fit for us. Every bit as physical as deano, great anticipation to get to loose balls. Then when they were in possession he'd be dropping in line with the centre halves to make an easy pass and the next minute be on the edge of our box during the same move.
One to keep an eye on if WBA go down.
