Have a poppy on their shirts? I couldn't see it. If not why not?

We had them mid-week against Tottenham, then we auctioned off the shirts. Abit of a cock-up by the club by all accounts, especially when we're playing on TV on Remembrance Sunday.

Noticed that midweek, Kert. Thought was a bit odd particularly as you played on Sunday.
Was it yourselves or Newcastle who made the big fuss last season re their neighbours not wearing poppies when in fact I think you did but a game earlier as well or did I imagine that? Could have been some other local rivals having a dig at each other

Hic Seems we've stirred up quite abit of anger in the press and social networking sites. It is definitely an odd one, would like to hear a statement from the club.

Didn't Man United refuse it last year because they thought it might offend some of their foreign "fans".

What a result by the Black Cats today, the good Cap'n Fishpaste must be over the moon. I most certainly am! ;D Regarding the poppy thing... we wore them against you last week... ... But not against Spurs... It is every year on the home game closest to Remembrance Sunday for us, traditionally. I think they reckon there is a better chance of us winning them so more chance people will want to buy the shirts and they will raise more money. Incidentally, the mags can piss off. We have done the poppies for the last 5 or 6 years, where as this was the first year they have ever done it, presumably because they didn't want any red on their shirts. Hardly in a position to grab the moral high ground, especially when we DID do the poppies.

Have a poppy on their shirts? I couldn't see it. If not why not? It's not the law as decided by you. Wearing a poppy is a matter of choice not the norm. Would love to know how much you actually donated when you bought yours if in fact you ever did.

Bit of a faux pas by Sunderland.
Glad to see we got good value from our shirts by wearing them twice

I think it's great that people choose to wear a poppy as I reckon it's a very worthy cause, but it's stupid how it is seen to be mandatory these days. Surely it's personal choice as to what causes and charities you support? Doesn't making it mandatory rather devalue the whole thing?
