Not really tickets are always on general sale and it was pay on the day. It's more to do with 4 away games in a few weeks and this one being the furthest away.
Can't blame it on anything else other than apathy or finances. I'd go with finances.

How the heck can it be anything to do with Platinum + ? Are you suggesting that 2,500 Stokies say "I can't afford Platinum + so I can't buy my ticket on the first three days of them going on sale so I won't bother buying one in the two or three weeks when I am eligible to buy?"

We've never travelled well to Sunderland for some reason? It stands to reason that it will dwindle we've always had a loyal 800/1000 away following and above that people have been drawn in by the Premier League. But it doesn't take long for the novelty to wear off.................

When we were on the park and ride bus after the game we were chatting to a couple of Mackems who thought our away support (numbers and noise) was ok. We said we didn't think there had been many of us, but they seemd to think we had a decent turnout compared to some other teams this season.

My mate drove there and back. Unfortunately when you have commitments, two tanks of petrol, ticket prices, food, drink etc and then Stoke are cheated every week its not great value

Deffo price... look at the turnout at bolton recently my ticket was £20 and its a 15 minute drive for myself. Everton was £33 , crap stadium, restricted view, no thanks.
I dont no how much Sunderland tickets were but i no its probably £40-50 petrol.

There were loads of tickets left on general sale. You don't need any membership at all to buy then. Anyone who wanted to go could have gone yesterday
There will still be people moaning that you can't get tickets for away games when we are at Man U.

People who can't get tickets for the 'big' games shouldn't moan if they don't want to go to the 'lesser' fixtures. They're all big games in my opinion but if we're honest our numbers our usually pretty poor if it's not a fixture within 60 miles or so. The Platinum + has absolutely no bearing on our away followings. To be honest I'm wondering if we'll even sell out for the Baggies.?

The reality of the Plat Plus card is that the money leaves your bank account before most of the other Travelling Stokies

which made last seasons priorty system the only fair way to get tickets To be honest the same system is pretty much there already, I really couldn't see the point of charging for almost the same system (albeit I didn't have to pay) but the facts are that out of around 24,000 people who go to home games only 1,000 went up to Sunderland yesterday. The question is did 23,000 all have a very good reason (finance, holiday etc, etc) why they couldn't attend or couldnt a big proportion of our fan base be arsed because it's a long way to Wearside?

Numbers dropping , no surprise and nowt to do with the current priorty system...Price , distance and 'perceived' quality of the day out all playing a part..they always have though
Of course the additional 1,500+ who boosted the away support week in week out for the first year have done that and worn the T shirt..and having done so have largely returned ( or are returning )to their normal attendance pattern.
we'll always be able to produce large turn-outs if conditions are right..just dont expect it every week , it wont happen.
Most stokies will continue to have the own favourite destinations and in my experience the North East clubs have never been on the list of the masses..personally I love it ..80 miles max preferably with a stop via Manchester is many stokies idea of heaven
Numbers though are higher and more reliable than thoughout the 70's + 80's in the top flight..when if any iffy or long distance game popped up our numbers would drop like a stone. ( though relegation and promotion in the 70's helped change numbers and consistancy dramatically for the better )
Numbers compared to then remain fairly healthy I put that down to , lack of violence in footie , ease of travel and the number of exiles that have left the city due to economic or career opportunities now being active compared to those days...the detractors are match prices and lack of Persil tickets

I think its got more to do with the cost and the current economic situation. Look at the away followings at the Brit this season, they've almost all been lower than expected. I'm guessing most clubs in the prem this season are getting lower crowds for the first time.
