By the number of anti referee and Wengar threads on here lets not get carried away with the fact that we have played very poor for a while now.Our tactics and inability to defend haven't helped one bit.

I really don't think we've been playing that badly. I think a combination of teething problems with an evolution of style and shocking reffing decisions have been our downfall. Well alright, we can add an uncharacteristically leaky defence to that too.
We're not doing great at the moment but I really don't see us as playing that badly.
We HAVE to win Tuesday, mind.

Whats the evolution in style?Honest question We're trying to be more expansive this year, there's no question about it. Two out-and-out wingers (at home at least) and Wilson, who is a passer, and a long way from your archetypal cage-dweller, is getting a run. On top of that, amazingly, we're seeing Tuncay start matches. Besides which TP himself has said we're trying to play more openly this year. I don't think there's any doubt we're trying to evolve, albeit slowly.

We played poorly yesterday (our worst display of the season?) but we have actually played pretty well in most of the games on our losing run.

Defense is a huge problem at the moment which suprises me as Pulis is normally quite quick at removing defensive frailties more quickly than any inefficiencies in attack.

THIS I think we are starting to look like a decent team in all honesty despite todays terrible first half performance. But we are still not the finished article and have a leaky defence and still not having enough shots on goal. But I do think our poor run is 80% down to terrible refereeing decisions and 20% our own poor play

On the whole, the football has been much better this year, the 2 out and out wingers is great to watch and great now tuncays back in , but defence needs sorting...crazy to think danny collins has been our most consistant defender this season!
January must get a centre mid and fullbacks in.

We've played okay on our losing run but still need to score more goals (stating the obvious). In the Villa v Fulham game yesterday there were Agbonlahor, Heskey, Carew, Zamora and Johnson all missing and they still managed a couple of goals?

Where previously we've been strong at, the back, we are now very much powderpuff. We've conceded goals recently that we haven't conceded for a long time. Yesterday's being a typical example. I also think we are scared to tackle - yesterday they got to within 25 yards before anyone challenged, which played a huge role in the same sloppy first goal.

Perhaps it's because previously our defense was built on sheer numbers - the back 8 - now it's a bit looser individual competence is more important.
