It won't happen because of the pathetic incompetant pandering wankres who run the Premiership and their fear of what effect it will have on viewing figures and sponsorship.
If it was Stoke or Wigan , they'd have piggin done it already.!

I can't see them going into administration (which is what is needed for a points deduction to come into force). If legal proceedeings are still going on by the 15th then the Royal Bank of Scotland would simply take over the club (in lieu of their loans) and sell it to the American group who are currently the board's preferred choice.

I think the PL have changed there opinion on this sort of thing since Portsmouth,
I really can see it happening, dropping out of the champions league really has fucked them up, as it did all those years ago with Leeds, add poor ownership and they are relegation fodder..

The League are already making up reasons why it wouldnt happen- if i understand the arguement it goes some thing like- the Holding club will be taken back by the bank and then sold immediatly to new buyers, therefore the club will not be insolvent and unable to pay creditors- seems like streching the rules to me, but given some of the referreeing decisions weve had against the bigger teams- why would be surprised?

The Premier will give them £Millions before doing this, unfortunately.

Whether the PL have changed their tune or not, there still has to be a reason within the rules for points to be deducted. Administration is a reason but, as outlined above, I can't see them going into administration. In the longer term the PL should bring in rules on all sorts of things such as: amount of debt, wages as a percentage of turnover and a stricter "fit and proper person test" - but, if any of this did happen (and I won't hold my breath) it would be too late to affect the current Liverpool situation.

If I understand correctly, Liverpool could go into administration temporarily. The RBS calls in its loans on Oct 15, places the club into admin to get rid of Hicks and Gillette as owners, then immediately sells it on to NESV. The points deduction should still be applied since it comes into effect upon any act of insolvency. Now, you and I would accept that a bank taking charge of a club as a result of its owners' inability to pay back loans is a good indication of such an act. My guess is that Liverpool will argue that the insolvency was "technical" only, in the sense that they were placed temporarily into admin to get rid of Hicks and Gillette and that the club was, in effect, a going concern all along. This being Liverpool they'll probably get away with it too. The only grounds for appeal are as follows (from the Prem League Rules): The only ground upon which an insolvent Club may appeal as aforesaid is that: 62.1 the Event of Insolvency was caused by and resulted directly from circumstances, other than normal business risks, over which it could not reasonably be expected to have had control; and 62.2 its Officials had used all due diligence to avoid the happening of that event. Neither apply as far as I can see but one rule for one and all that!

Lakeland, Perhaps you don't read as many newspapers as I do and are therefore less confused. For example, one proclaims that LFC would not go into admin., as the prospective debt refers to the Holding Company and not the FC. And that's the business section. As even the financial experts are confused, I've given up trying.

As even the financial experts are confused, I've given up trying. I don't know the Prem's admin rules well enough to know if the administration of a holding company would necessarily mean no points deduction Monica. What I do know is that if a buyer is in the wings it isn't really in anyone's interest to allow administration to happen - other than the buyer. 1. The club's board don't want admin as they lose 9 points 2. The Bank don't want administration as the club loses value when they sell it if those 9 points have been deducted. 3. Hicks and Gillette (if they have any sense) will not want administration for the same reason as the bank - it lowers the value of the club - at least with the proposed quick sale they will get their debts wiped out even if they won't get their investment back. 4. The New American buyers theoretically could buy the club cheaper after administration but that doesn't appear to be what they want, probably because it would sour their relationship with the fans right from the start. So, with a buyer there who will wipe out the debt, I reckon admin will not happen. In this respect the Liverpool situation appears to be different to Portsmouth, Leeds, Bradford or any other recent club administration.

Tell you what...im really starting to believe Liverpool are going to be in the relegation mix come May next year. I fucking hope so too....would be great to see some of those glory hunting bastard fans be forced to change the club they support ;D
They'll probably just become Chelsea fans.

The Prem are very protective of their reputation world wide and will ensure no points deductions for such a high profile club.

Well if Liverpool do temporarily go into admin to force a change of ownership and the league don't deduct points then I would see a strong challenge coming from Southampton for compensation as that is what happened to them in 2009.

As much as I'd love to see a "big club" get relegated so that these glory hunters (ahem) realise that no one has a devine right to the top teer, the Prem League will never let it happen. If it was us or a. n. other club we'd be stuffed, but the likes of a so called popular team that earns them a fortune going down.... I can hear the PL Board secretary scribing down the newly dictated rules now. sigh.

Well I guess that you/we dont't even actually need to know what the Prem's admins rules are ... indeed they are irrelevant, if they're going to deal with each individual case on a unique basis - as you seem to be suggesting they will.
