I've been thinking about the January window and if we will be active in there again and try and improve the squad. I'm not sure who TP would go for (apart from the possible permanent signing of Pennant) who he didn't get in the summer.
Jenas is a name that might come up, but he's getting the odd game at Spuds and I'm sure he had every chance to come to us if he'd have wanted to.
I think we have got good players all over the park now, and could use a new CM but I'm not sure TP is concerned about that - deano, sally, rory have done well this year and we have whelan to call on too, which he's never been afraid to do. And then we also have Wilson.
So, will we go in for anyone in January, or do you think we'll settle for what we have?

think we will have the usual davesviews drivel for 2 months then sign someone completely unexpected at the last day.
can see more people going than coming in the next window. think shawcross may go if spuds are still in champions league. so that would mean we would sign a couple of defenders to replace him.
prehaps we may sign someone from the eventual liverpool cull

The money appears to be there, so I wouldn't be suprised if we were one of the windows top spenders again. I'm hoping for 3-4 additions really, I still think we need to prioritise a creative central midfielder, Wilson may well be the answer, but we haven't really seen enough of him to judge that yet, and a midfielder of the same mould would be welcome competition anyway. I still think we need to look to address the full-back positions, Huth and Collins are doing a solid job at the moment, but the long-term plan has to be to play Huth with Ryan in the middle because Faye isn't getting any younger. So that means a right-back would be needed, preferably one who can over-lap and distribute the ball well, as well as defend. Hopefully as mentioned above we can secure the permanent transfer of Pennant too, as we've looked such a well balanced team since we've had proper wingers on both flanks.

I'll be quite surprised if we don't spend £10 million net and I think we might spend as much as £15 million net. The new FIFA rules about club finances and European competition mean that, if Coates has ambitions of us playing in Europe, we are better spending now to increase the value of the squad, rather than at the end of the season when we'll need to start concentrating more on balancing the books.
Central midfield and right back and getting Pennant on a permanent deal should be the top priorities.
It wouldn't surprise me to see moves in and out on the keeper front.
I would expect Tuncay to head a list of departures which should include Tonge and Soares if we have strengthened the midfield.

A quality midfielder who gets the ball (and instead of hitting it forward) looks up and then picks out a pass, if we had one of them players with Etherington and Pennant on the wings we will be alot better off!

I can see us going for N'Zogbia, whether he will want to sign coz he failed to sign for Brum in the summer coz he wanted too much (preparing to stand corrected on that one).. And I would have thought Pennant will sign for us unless someone bigger comes in for him but I don't think they would be prepared to risk him :/ And if Tuncay doesn't leave then I'll be absolutely amazed ! And I notice people saying we need a CM and a RB... this must mean people have taken a shine to Danny Collins or that people have forgotten him... and tbh... Good... coz he has been putting in some of his best performances since having signed

Its bye bye Tuncay... sadly.. hardly been given a chance which is crazy really. Pennant to sign permanently , hopefully a decent full back or two and someone like Dorrans or Morrison in Midfield. Hopefully in the New year we will see some of the "kiddies" given a chance... Wilson and the Two Crewe lads...

Sign Pennant 1 X LB 1 X RB 1 X CM Done While using Tuncay in one of the deals, then that pretty much is a perfect transfer window for us. Backup for Ethers could be useful too.

Difference this transfer window is the 25 man squad restriction. There must be loads of players out there who thought they'd get a place in the "big" teams squads and now find themselves effectively frozen-out from first team action. Expect to see agents peddling their players like never before, I can see all sorts of stupid (well more stupid than usual ) rumours breaking as agents try and get the best price for players that the "big" teams don't want anymore.

If we spend upwards of £10-15m in January, and we're still in touch of the top 7 then, we could be serious contenders for Europe. With sides underachieving at the moment (Everton, Liverpool, Birmingham, etc - we could find ourselves capitalising on these positions being freed up by them. I'm excited now Fornside - i hope you're right!

If he carries on like he has started, signing JP should be number one priority. After that, a right back should be next, to free Huth to take over, long term, from Abdoulaye from next season as Ryan's partner. I'd go for Alan Hutton from Spurs, as long as 'Arry doesn't insist on Ryan going the other way.
I'd like a left back as well, but right is the more desperate need, with Collins playing far better and Higgy a solid alternative for now. Maybe if Tuncay goes to Wigwam - he will go somewhere in January surely - we can get Figgy as a part-ex?
I'd love a central midfield general, someone who orchestrates play, but that is so not in the TP way of doing things, at least for now, that we may as well save our cash or spend it elsewhere. The addition of this player will have to wait for the summer I reckon.
The January window is an awkward one as most teams won't contemplate selling their best players, so we would be left seeing which of the top clubs' squad players we can tempt with first team football.
Like most Januarys, I think we will only see a few new faces. I'd settle for Hutton, Figueroa and a young winger cum striker (maybe a loan?) as back-up, with Tuncay bound to go.

Priority for me is to sign Pennant on a permanent. The only other deal I can see is Tuncay leaving hopefully as a makeweight for a CM for someone like Diame, Noble or Faubert or Richardson from Sunderland.

Would you really what to sign some one like Charles Insomnia who has no loyalty to any club he has been at,and would be eying up next move as soon as he got here.Have we forgot about Dicko who is Stoke City through and through and still 23 and would not cost a penny.

I've not forgotten about Dicko - he should be sold in January or, if not, next summer to the highest bidder from the Championship. ;D Not good enough, I'm afraid.
