Best combined central midfield performance this season so far by us without a doubt. I thought Rory could've quite easily walked away with MOTM today too as I thought he played just as well as Whitehead. Both were constantly breaking playing down, and I thought they both distributed the ball sensibly too, we know they aren't really creative central midfielders, but they played the simple passes out to the wide men and let them cause the damage. I think Wilson has plenty to offer, he certainly has showed signs of being the most creative minded central player we have, and Diao has shown in recent games that he can still do a job for us. It's still an area I hope we look to strengthen in January, but I think we have 4 really capable central midfielders here, and the partnership we had today yet again proved to be the best. As for Whelan, well he just doesn't do enough on a regular basis for me. He drifts in and out of games too much, and he's certainly not the creative minded midfielder we hoped we were getting from Sheffield Wednesday. All in all though, it's just nice to be able to say we have good quality strength in depth in most positions now.

Agree. Am always amazed with the lack of knowledge of some fans who don't rate Whitehead. He consistently performs to a high level doing all the work that many other players don't want to do (or can't do). Every team needs a player like him in there. Today he went beyond that role and ran the game.
Rory is twice the player in the middle that he is stuck out on the flank. He looked past it early in the season, but that is obviously down to his position as he worked great today and other times when moved inside.
Although not a midfield point, don't think I have seen a player better in the air than Jones since I have been going to Stoke. He wins EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Yes I think it was. But I thought Blackburn played a game that suited us, Against a passing side I still think we will struggle in midfield.

Hopefully it opened Pulis' eyes as to why Rory should play in the middle. Hopefully JP doesn't get injured too often and when he does, Walters gets played on the right.

I am a big critic of Whitehead, I just don't think he's good enough, and he's been poor this season but he had a good game today.

My MOTM were Whitehead and Collins, I thought they were both outstanding today

I still say Delap is our best center midfielder, both Whitehead and Whelan have there better games when playing next to him

Tell that to the guy behind me he slagged off Rory all game. I thought Rory was Ok however Whitehead fought all day and had a decent game. I just think there passing lets them down. I agree about Collins he's getting better and better.

Easily the central midfield's best game, but Blackburn's hardly stretched them.
