Yep, i had it this morning. What makes me laugh though is that they send you a rejection letter with a glossy marathon mag just to rub it in!Are you going for the charity route in though?? Might have to go for the edinburgh marathon though cos it's a great piss up afterwards!

over 600,000 people apply for the marathon , and they have a cap of around 35 to 40k who can take part. did you tick the box to say they can keep your entry for good causes even if you are not accepted? i've done the london marathon 9 times, but have been rejected 7 times. its just pot luck mate. however you can still get a place if you run for a charity, kids get going want you to raise about 2K to get a place. worth it though mate, can't wait to do my 10th

did my first last year came through the ballot first time
tbh i would struggle to raise that sort of money

I got one too unfortunately. Not the first time either, it really is pot luck.
The thing that pisses me off is that the charity places ask for you to raise a hell of a lot of money. My nan has Parkinson's so I am thinking of trying through them but they're asking for £1700 which is going to be tougher than the training and marathon itself.
Assuming the average person will donate £10 (even that seems optimistic) I've got to find 170 people willing to do that.
Just slightly frustrating.

I don't see how anyone can stop you from running the marathon route on the same day though, if you really wanted to do it.

i'm lucky that i can get the chairman to sponsor me £800, but the first time that you do it is awsome, hey salop? The crowd are the ones that get you round & anyone that does do it for the first time, put your name on your shirt so people can give you some help, especially between 13-19 miles, i remeber seeing the people on the other side of the road who were 7 miles ahead of me at about the 12 mile mark, killer that was, all i saw was the bin men clearing up when i got there.

Is there any local marathons next year, I may venture into one if the half goes OK tomorrow? Get one in before the big 5-0 comes along
