In the latest issue of 'When Saturday Comes' there is an article about the last day of the transfer window which includes the following sentence: 'As the day dragged on, Eidur Gudjohnsen moved from Monaco to Stoke, a change of scenery which should, in normal circumstances, only be possible using extradition legislation.' Those of you who consider Stoke-on-Trent to be the social and cultural capital of the world will doubtless be offended by this, but it made me laugh out loud!

Yes, your're right I am deeply offended and what's more I expect that more millionaires from Monaco and The Cote D'Azur will be researching Brindley Ford , Brown Edge (Rimmers) and other Cultural places of outstanding natural beauty with a view to moving here like Eidur has done... Besides Monaco is very brash & pretentious where people can be openly seen posing whilst sitting in their Ferraris and Lambourghinis.....YOU DON'T GET SUCH FILTH ROUND HERE IN FEGG HAYES YOU KNOW.!

Very good They are Monagasque with a royal family unlike the French who live in a republic. In this respect they are just like us. I have it on good authority that the weather on the Cote d'Azur is the same as it is in The Boothen End in February, just like us ???

What I hate about these kind's of cheap shots at Stoke on Trent is that we never profess anything other than being a hard working area that produced the finest ceramics that the world has ever seen. The innovations of wedgewood were outstanding and I bet the princes of monaco ate and still eat from such items or have them on display!
It would be justified if we were shouting from the roof tops how cultured we were and how we had buildings to rival many cities but we don't!
Cheap shot's are just that cheap and reflect on the person writing them!!

You only realise what a dump s-o-t is when you return after a good day out some place else. lets face it, besides SCFC just what is good about this shithole of a city?

Very true pasa they are past glories and we only can look at the legacy left by the pots. All that wealth generated and the city council frittered it all away with hardly anything to show for it. It was fortunate at the time that wedgewood wanted to give back to the area through education etc. Just one thing to note is that we know it's down on the canvas and on the ropes but just like the football team Stoke City we will get back it's just a question of time and investment. Those people who made the beautiful ceramics are still here very hardworking skillful people, we may be living in a rundown area but why should people run an area down due to the state of its buildings and not look at those people who live there.

I knew there would be an ID type moment on my post... "Monaco's population is unusual in that the native Monegasques are a minority in their own country. The largest proportion of residents are French nationals (47%), followed by Monegasque (16%), and Italians (16%). The remaining 21% belong to one of the other 125 nationalities that make up Monaco's international population. A Monacoian is the term used to describe a person living in Monaco who is not a citizen of Monaco"

Also, so Monaco is basically Birmingham in France. Coat I shall get.

There's a difference between "cheap shots" and genuine wit, and the WSC comment is clearly an example of the latter.
