I just wondered which manager signed Kyle Lightbourne?
I'm off to a sportmans dinner with Chris Kamara tonight and I'm pretty sure he signed him, so I think it's only right I question what was going through his mind when he spent 500K on him ;D

Pretty sure it was him. If not him it would have been Brian Little.

It was Kamara and he was our Record ever signing at the time if I can remember. He got some tropical disease or something and could not play immediatley too :/ as a straight fee paid it wasn't a record fee, A certain CEO decided to add onto the transfer fee stilborns wages, agents fee, bus fare, dinner money, laundry bill and just about any other fee they could squeeze in to show the supporters he wasn't letting Stoke city sink into the third division without a fight.

He was just the right signing at the wrong time IMHO - he did have some skill and was a natural athlete (he was a very good left arm fast bowler at cricket in his youth too), but he had that laid back air to him that didn't help his cause with Stokies.
As someone who lived in Bermuda for 4 years, mostly during the time Kyle was at Stoke, I can state he was a typical Bermudian and, having met him on a few occasions, a lovely fella. He went on to coach the Bermuda national team and then its ASL franchise the Hogges (owned by Shaun Goater), but I have rather lost track of Bermudian sport over the last few years since I moved on.

Your right Chris’s boy said we won’t be playing in this division in the future and how right was he? Spot on when we went down!!! I remember the goal v Portsmouth, was it a lob from the edge of the area, in the last min?

Seem to remember us signing him the day of the Bury away game. Had high hopes when we got to Gigg Lane only to find out he'd failed a fitness test. 0-0 that night (I think?) with a forward line of Dean Crowe and David Xausa. How bad were we back then..............

Not sure what the crowd was but i dare say it was half our present turn out. Grim times back then.

I seem to recall we paid Coventry £400,000 for him and Strachan later revealed if Kammy had offered £100,000 he'd have snapped his hand off.

If you listen to most Stokies Lightbourne was one of our worst ever players and it's just not true. Kamara built him up to be our saviour and because of his illness he was never really fit and when he missed a few chances his confidence took a caning and the good old Stokie faithful started getting on his back...the rest they say is history. Without him Peter Thorne wouldn't have scored half the goals he did,Lightbourne was an excellent foil for him. Wrong player at the wrong time. Having said that give Kamara some stick from me !

Mate I wouldnt even mention Lightbourne to Kammy if you want to get on! We saw him in Cape Point at the World Cup, wasnt impressed when we collared him about Kyle. Said he didnt pay what Moxey had put in the papers and it was nowhere near £500,000. Chris also said us Stoke fans only ever recalled the time when he was manager and spoke about the bad times. We retorted that there werent any good times as he only won 1 game. lol. Best bull him up about him being one of the best midfield players Stoke had and then you might get on! He is usually most amenable for autographs and photos etc. Ask him if he remembers drinking in the Westbury Tavern he always had a few beers in there when he was at Stoke and might appreciate somthing like that more. Have a good night but stand well back if you do mention Kyle Lightbourne! Ha! Ha!
