Bloody hell Inverness are all you Jocks paranoid as well? Where's this anti Scots verse in THE National Anthem then? Not paranoid just have a firm view on this certain subject. Here is the verse though: Lord, grant that Marshal Wade, May by thy mighty aid, Victory bring. May he sedition hush, and like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush, God save the King. But that does not appear in THE National Anthem does it. It was inserted into the song "God Save the King" in 1745 during the Jacobite (Scottish) INVASION OF ENGLAND. Perhaps understandable then that they might have been a bit anti Scot. However, it was little used after 1745 and when the song was adopted as THE Anthem it was no longer a verse and has never been since. Pedantry is my favourite subject

It's the same tune as God Save the Queen. It doesn't have the same words as "God Save the Queen" though, and i'd imagine Lichtenstein don't have anything about The Queen, rebellious Scots and such.
It's a bit like booing every time you hear a chord progression of Em, G, D and A because you really hate Wonderwall by Oasis ;D

Maybe a bit of a Republican view, but I think the national anthems are an outdated tradition at internationals. It smacks a bit of an imperialist tradition.
The Scots have adopted a folk tune as their national anthem. Most Scots seem to know the first 2 lines of a modern poppy song that celebrates beating Edward's arny in the 18th century.
The whole anthem thing is a bit of a jingoistic warm up act.
It certainly doesn't offend me if a crowd boos the anthem. It's all part of making a hostile home atmosphere, and the fast disappearing atmosphere of the football ground as part theatre part bear pit.
I am the kind of football watcher who could happily jeer the Scots and their silly song, but applauded Gareth Bale, an opposition player, for a brilliant piece of football skill.

Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performances!
