Basically we have bought him out of his last year of his contract with Monaco so technically speaking he is now our player on a one year deal.

Aren't all season long foreign loans classed as 1 year contracts? I seem to remember that "Junior" in Bozzie's season was classed as a 1 year contract with us with a return clause after the end of the season. This is one reason why you are allowed unlimited foreign 'loans'. No, because he's not a Monaco player anymore, he's a Stoke player. If it was a loan as you say, he'd be due to return to Monaco at the end of this season. A loan is to borrow, we aren't borrowing him as we've signed the bloke, and we've gave him a one year contract, simple as that. It's great news anyway, as he's actually a fully fledged Stoke player now! Junior was still on Anderlecht's(or whatever the team was)books whilst at Stoke as well.

I smell a rat involving floppychops There's obviously been some horse trading between Pulis and Redknapp over the last few weeks. If it involved a player exchange including Shawcross then I'm glad Pulis didn't take the bait.

Serious question, when stoke sign a new player that hasnt been given a new number yet, why do they always have the letter 'T' on their training gear, what does it stand for?

It looks quite obvious what has happened to me.
Eidur is on stupid wages so Monaco wnated to get rid. We offered to loan him but could only afford half wages and can't break our pay structure.
Monaco weren't happy about paying half his wages. So we came to an agreement where we 'sign' him for 2m. Monaco use the 2m to pay him off. We sign him on a 1 year contract where he now fits into our wage structure.
It's got to be?

Season long loan or 1 year permanent contract, I can't really see the difference unless we sell him in January.

Doesnt the Stoke site say its a loan? I was under the impression that the fee was to pay his wages only, 2m over 52 weeks equates to nearly 38500 a week

Whats the difference between being on loan for a season or being on a contract?...
Okay, Pro's - He can't get recalled to Monaco
Cons - We paid a fee to get him and will likely be paying all of his salary.

Okay, Pro's - He can't get recalled to Monaco Cons - We paid a fee to get him and will likely be paying all of his salary. You pay a fee for loans - I imagine the fee for loaning somebody for a year, to run to the end of their contract, is pretty much the same as paying for the player outright? Salary is a point though, no idea what he was (or is now) on. Presumably the salary would have been better for us as a loan opposed to perm?

I heard 2m somewhere for a transfer fee, or that could have been a yearly cost for the club which works out just short of 40k per week.
Also that he was on 75k per week at Monaco.
Anyway, i think with the way we've conducted our transfers that PC and TP have decided to minimise annual transfer spending whilst increasing the annual salary budget, thus managing to attract bigger name players, providing clubs are willing to let them go.
The KJ deal of 2m per year (freeing up funds annually for wages), the EG deal which was probably minimal in terms of a transfer fee and the Pennant loan certainly point to this for me.
Looking elsewhere, Van der Vaart to Spurs and Robinho to Milan also look the same. Seems to me that players are becoming cheaper to buy because clubs can no longer afford their collective wages.

I wonder if those last minute toing a froing had any effect on the outcome? Maybe it was intended as a loan, but changed to a full contact. Just a thought (Hope)

Maybe I have seen too many episodes of "Lie to me", but his body language was not one of delight. It looked more like, any port in a storm.
As a true professional I am sure he will be great.

originally SSN said stoke were paying £2 million to monaco to cover Gudjohnsens wages for the period of the loan deal (12 months) does this new development mean that stoke have paid a £2 million transfer fee and his wages are on top of this-if so it would make it quite costly for a 1 year contract.

Don't some clubs charge a fee for loaning their players. Seem to remember us paying the barcodes half a mil for ameobi in our promotion season.

Season long loan or 1 year permanent contract, I can't really see the difference unless we sell him in January. It will give us the opportunity to bring in a man extra on loan in the Jan window I guess.
