Quote: Is it going to be like this with every signing?
Yes it will, every player we have been linked with has either been 'not good enough' (Walters O'neill etc) Or overpriced (Bentley, SWP, Cole, Rodders etc) People then make these opinions that they are not an improvement, then go out of there way to prove there opinion is correct.
Instead of enjoying our stay in the best league in the world.

Unless we believe that Walters has been signed as our third choice right-sided player, then just why are we measuring him against Liam? Pulis preferred both Delap and Whitehead to Liam last season and Liam has indicated that it is the right time for him to leave (his words). So we need to compair Walters with Delap and Whitehead on the right and NOBODY believes either of them should be playing there. Walters is a definite improvement on those two for the right sided slot.
I like Liam and I think he has been a terrific signing for us but he was very poor last season (even given the mitigating circumstances at times). I think he'll be leaving and I'll be sad to see him go but if he stays and gets back to form we know he is capable of I will be delighted. Nevertheless, the Walters signing is fully understandable.
Also, those who wonder about us preferring an Ireland B International over a full International should ask themselves how many caps Liam had before we were in the Premier League. In fact he hasn't got many NOW and, as others have stated, just how many bids have we had for Liam?

But it's our benchmark, all other hypothetical benchmarks from the Amazon to the top six of the Premier don't count for anything. We're weak on the right wing and Pulis thinks/hopes he's found a player with something to prove. If he hasn't we can't be any worse off than we are now. If Walters thrives on negative motivation he'll have a field day if he's daft enough to read the Oatcake. This

There are , as yet undiscovered tribes in the Amazon Basin, whose tribal first XI contains better right-sided options than Rory and Deano. Very disappointed Kempy didn't unearth these gems last season.

I've seen Victor Moses play if that's any help at all. Most on here were begging Tone to go and get him after he pissed all over us when a Championship player. Spent the bulk of last season on Wigan's bench.
You know what I'm saying.....
Let's judge him when he's had a fair crack in a Stoke shirt.

Moses is only 19, to be fair, Doz. And he did start on Saturday. He's a long-term project.
This Walters signing was always going to go down like a lead balloon. And it would have got the same internet bashing, rightly or wrongly, at the overwhelming majority of the other 19 Premier League clubs.
But he's obviously going to be judged on what he does on the pitch from now on.

Yeh I know FM, just being a cheeky , argumentative git as ever. He looks a good player in the making Lets hope people are true to their word and give Walters time to shine. Stokies aren't too renowned for their patience in my experience.

very very VERY poor signing, tony says he bought him because he can score goals? that is complete bollox he only scored 9 last season and that was in the championship, sorry but this is a terrible signing. then again we prob only bought him to partner kitson in attack when we play shrewsbury...

Nine goals is a good return for a winger in any division.

Not quite as good as Cresser hitting about 10/11 per season at champs level...and we know how good cresser was in the prem!....uninspiring signing ..hope he proves me wrong

Very very VERY decent signing in my opinion. He is a strong lad who will work hard. Maybe not exactly a speed merchant and what we 're crying out for but he will provide an outlet wide on the right and support his full back!

cousindupree: People use Cresswell as some kind of negative yardstick when it comes to Championship players making it in the Premier League. He score 11 for us in our Promotion season mainly (though not exclusively) from the wide position. Lenny also scored a fair share of goals from out wide that season but we were a good side that earned automatic promotion whereas Walters has played in an crap side this past few seasons. Creswell was a striker, playing wide and the bulk of his career goals have been scored, naturally, as a striker. Walters is a wide man that scores goals and it's a pretty rare commodity. Not too many reach double figures.

Walters actually is a striker that has been converted to play on the wing I think. But I'd class him as more of a winger simply because that is where he has played mostly for Ipswich.

Ipswich fan here. Just like to come and tell you a bit about Jon Walters-if that's OK? All my own opinions of course! Walters is a predominantly right sided winger or attacking midfield player although he has also played on the left and up front as a striker. He is deceptively good in the air and quick, although maybe not your typical "take on the full back" type of winger. He is very good when cutting inside and getting a shot away. Unfortunately his goal tally in recent seasons has been a little disappointing, but at his best a couple of seasons back he couldn't miss. One thing that you will notice is that he is a 100% player and you will never see him hiding from the ball. In recent seasons his form has dropped off a little and this move could be the making of him. He looked like he was in need of a change. He leaves Ipswich with the best wishes of all genuine fans here (I believe) and we hope that at Stoke he goes on to bigger and better things. I think that our lack of promotion credentials in the last few years has somewhat been the cause of his loss of form but if it comes back - and I'm sure that it will -he will become a valuable and dependable member of your squad. We'll be looking out to see how he gets on and I'm sure that if our teams cross paths in the future he will get a good reception from us here in Suffolk. On recent form the fee paid sounds like a good deal for us - but I think he's worth it! Apologies for the ramble but sincerely hope that he plays to his full potential for you."

I thought he started as a striker at his other clubs and then was mainly played on the wing at Ipswich (as I said). One for Billy from Hull to decide.

Doz.....Cresser was and still is a decent champs player and scored more than Walters in a season for us. But sadly by no stretch of the imagination was ever a prem player! You are impressed by Walters hitting 9 all I'm saying is cresser regularly hit that number and look how he faired in the prem. Usually a player will get spotted as having prem potential before he is 27 and he hasn't been even by promted champ teams who would know a lot about him. I hope I am wrong but its a convenient and lazy signing by TP

What in Atlanta Georgia cous? ;D Seriously mate, I agree with what you're saying ref Cresswell except he was playing in a Promotion quality team and was a striker playing out wide. Walters is actually a wide man (Cresser wasn't) anbd has played in a very poor side. He would also have been 'picked up' for the Premier League three years ago but Ipswich wouldn't sell him to us. Pulis has always thought he's good enough. It's still to be proven of course but lets give him a chance eh?
