It's not that, that bothers me. He's not better than what we have and we will be replacing a better player for more money! ??? What's the point? i bet youi havnt seen him play enough though have you wheras pulis will have done I've seen him play enough to know he isn't better than Lawrence. And we have history for paying over the odds for Championship players that aren't good enough, also watched a lot by Tone! ;D It's safe to say when it comes to Championship players I don't trust his judgement, we have no reason to going on our forays in that market since promotion. I'd rather see Ben Marshall given a chance than Walters too. He has undoubted talent and should be given a chance over Walters. This signing makes no sense at all, especially at that price.

fuck me give the lad a chance, he may turn out to be a good player for us if he signs, who do you lot expect us to sign for the right wing eh, ronaldo? Yes. Noooooooooooo, have either of you actually seen him play? If not then take it from one who has, that he's absolute pants!

Lawrence out for 2M, Walters in for 3M. I love how Stoke City take their time with transfer deals, to make sure they get the best possible prices thanks to our frugal and sound business sense at boardroom level. Now where can I spend my gold discount card....?

Lenny's not going to stay here to be the understudy to our new right mid, if Walters is (as DV has suggested), then I haven't got a problem with that. I'd much rather have him as cover rather than seeing Deano or Rory stuck out there when we've got a problem. However if he's not coming as cover, then I'm not going to be very impressed. Fair point, Paul. But if we've sold the move to Walters as one where he's going to be backing up a new right winger from the bench every week, it doesn't smack of ambition, does it? But there's some talk that he's desperate to return north as his wife is a very homesick scouser. And maybe that's a key factor meaning he's willing to pick up big bucks as a back-up, and that's what Davesviews was saying. And whatever else the Ipswich fans say about him, they're pretty united about his attitude and commitment. 3m seems very OTT for a back-up player though, especially a 26-year-old untried at a high level

TP's obsession with thick thighed plodders who aren't even ripping up the championship is bizarre.
As always though, you can't be too judgmental until we've seen him play for us.

Brilliant news. It is signings like these that make me realise how much the club has progressed in the past 2/3 years

Presumably a direct replacement for Liam was the Ipswich top scorer last season , might suit our system ok and lets face it Liam is out of favour. P.S. Any of you expecting big name signings, calm down and look at the state of thr transfer market, we might get lucky but its more likely to be either a deadline day transfer or loan where the selling club and player both have to be less greedy

Tone is probably getting him in so he can ship Lenny off to Celtic, but what's the fucking point, Lenny is better and he would loose 1 mil in the process.

I've seen him play enough to know he isn't better than Lawrence. He's no Joe Ledley either Ledley is better than Walters. All is forgiven Joe! ;D At the end of the day both are Championship standard. I read on an Ipswich forum that Walters has lost the ability to win cross field long balls in the air. It will be interesting to see if this is the case and if it was one of the reasons TP liked him in the first place.

When you're trying to sell this "superstar" you're unlikely to label him a talentless one-paced sack of shit are you?

The signing of Walters only become an issue to me if there isn't a more accomplished right mid expected in as well.

Roy Keane hates everyone but still had this to say. After handing him the captain's armband Keane said: 'Jon Walters could easily be playing in the Premier League so we're very lucky to have him. 'How he's not playing there I'll never know. He's a big, big player for us.' Really, the manager of a football club who reportedly has one of his players under a speculative bid from a bigger team with a bit of money is praising him and stating how important the player is? Crazy, absolutely crazy!

Post by Jamo on the wing on Aug 4, 2010 12:36:31 GMT
I'll be honest, I'm underwhelmed.
AS Grapey has said his best season was during our promotion year when he and Liam were competing for the Opta player of the year.
Liam edged him out, and certainly outshone Walters when they clashed in that 1-0 at the Brit when Liam smoked one in from 25 yards.
We'll have to reserve judgement, are we signing him as a winger or a forward?
If it is as a wide player I would suggest we may be letting a better player go if Lenny moves to Celtic.
Hopefully this is just the beginning and he is seen as a squad player more than a first teamer (as I think DV had mentioned in past weeks.)
