I think they do it in Nottingham every year (Forest - County), that seems to go down well.
All this talk about kicking lumps out of each other, how about Crewe-Stoke, with Dario's carpet football, no-one would get hurt!!

i remember going to the vale early 80,s friday night match i think? seem to remember us winning handsomely 4or 5?[it was along timeago?]but the whole point of the match was to help them out financially [there were stoke fans all around vale park and no sign of any trouble] then they had a few good seasons and we went in the opposite direction and suddenly we werent good enough for them???? well they can now fuck offand crawl back under the hole they came from.

we could play them in a tournament style when we play newcastle town...bring another local team into the mix and make it a whole day of local football.

Nowt against Vale or it's supporters ...but , begs the question what's in it for us?
Are friendlies( pre season or otherwise ) for fans or for the team / club... personally I've always seen them as being for the benifit of the club / team , with scant regard if any paid for supporters wishes...
Can't see what benifits playing the Vale in the current climate would bring to our club or team in any shape or form ..obviously I can see the potential financial benifits to them.
If to satisfy supporters wishes then TBH a game v Vale would be well down my own preferred list..it's old hat , we've done that worn the tshirt and given them a free handout on previous occassions ...
Now a repeat of the 63-4 friendlies in Sth America which include games against Bocca Jnrs and River Plate would certainly get my vote and arse on a plane.
