Had totally forgotten that nickname! What was the basis for that? Was it speculation about his head shape provoked by his heading ability?

Aha! Of course. It all comes flooding back. I'd been puzzling over that one for a while.

Didn't see much of it myself but I did see the ball flying past Muggers several times from long range. I see age hasn't diminished his quality.

He was dynamite at Southend. Saw it with my own eyes, when I used to go down there visiting the family. Found his level there, I suppose.

Thing is he (obviously) wasn't a natural goalscorer. But his pace was useful and him coming into the team for Keith Snot was a big part of thye season getting going in 95/96. If he could finish he'd have been worth millions.

If he could finish he'd have been worth millions. Wasn't it Simon Sturridge coming into the front line that helped kick start our season that year? I can't remember Carruthers having much of an impact that year (good or bad), I tend to associate him more with 93/94 and 94/95.

Carruthers came on as sub at brum when we got a draw to break the losing spell. He scored the equaliser. The SAS were formed and he was a bit part player but it his pace after Snott's slowness that got us going IMHO.
