www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-10676867It doesnt mention it on this page but its just been on BBC news and one of the reasons for the memorial being down there is the designer 'Southamptons RJ Mitchell'. Now either the BBC cant do their research properley or it was just a lie and blatent snub to Stoke on Trent. Twatters!!!!!!

I know he worked their and the plane was acctually designed there, it was just the way it was worded that made out he was origionally from there. Just struck me as a bit of a snub or lazy reporting.

Yes mate. I meant it would've only taken the lazy cunts 2 minutes to find out. Perhaps they got muddled cause of the red and white stripes on the front and back of the shirts.

I hope they all get bombed to death by the Luftwaffe MK II before the S-o-T based RAF beats the Nazi wankers back once again.

I think you're being a bit paranoid there fella. Why on earth would it be a deliberate snub? I suppose the fact he was based and designed the thing there is the reason behind the comment as someone said. Hardly something to feel bitter about. He is to be fair better associated with Southampton.

Pah! he's BUTT LANE's R J Mitchell.....!!!! ;-) Exactly... technically he belongs to the old Wolstanton Urban District Council As for Southampton, of course he's more associated with there and quite right too, that's where the massively important marine and air engineering company he worked for was based and he'd have been the first to say all the great things he did were team products. How many aircraft factories are there in S-o-T again?? Of course I'm proud of R J Mitchell and his North Staffs connection but I am so fucking sick of this area creaming itself over people who happened to be born here through some random accident, then moved away to become whatever they were or are famous for... instead of the ones who actually move here and are making real things with real North Staffs people! I mean how sad is that?? The history of the pottery industry is full of people who came HERE because they found something to work with and could believe in it, they created jobs, they made great things... how many times have you heard Susan Williams-Ellis or Emma Bridgewater mentioned on this board??
