I've got a good mate whos' a Saints fan - I posted a few weeks ago about how he and his fellow Saints fans were mystified as to why Li'l Ant Pulis had been retained after three years of not even a whiff of first team action in League 1.
He gave me a quick update the other day - Ant is the only senior player to be left out of their pre-season tour, and he's now playing friendlies at home with what is essentially the youth team. My mate just sent me the line-up for a game they played recently and Ant is the only player over 18. Guessing Ant must be 27 now...?
It's a complete mystery to them why he's still got a pro contract there.
One the plus side for Li'l Ant, he scored the other day!

He's 25...and has only been at Southampton since August 2008, so it's only 2 years without 1st team action Very strange all the same!

Signed a 2-yr deal there in Aug 08, with an option of a third.
So they've actually taken the option of a third year for a player who has never played a game for them and is training with the youth team?
Interesting.....to say the least

This is why Southampton are facing financial oblivion and are in League 1, they're still run by the old boys' club, even without Rupert Lowe.

I wonder if Tone is subsidising his wages out of his own pocket just to keep 'the kid' in gainful employment

There certainly is an invisible hand guiding that boy's career.
He's a lucky lad - but good luck to him. If you're gifted a career as a pro footballer, it's not your place to turn it down

25 and made only 28 appearances which is shocking for a Pro-Footballer; apparently in the loan stint at Lincoln he was good until injury came around and was sent back...League 2 must be his level then!.

7 years in pro football and a total of 32 games played not bad for him ,, and yet he still gets around 1000 a week and has done for every week since he turned pro -- works out over 350k hes made from around 48 hours playing time

Who was it who he played one game for as a substitute, conceded a penalty for handball and got sent straight back to us?

I think there's obviously some kind of deal been struck re Li'l Ant, but Saints in general are on the up and I think they'll win the league this season. Just signed Frazer Richardson btw.

A whole career built upon employing a private detective to take few choice pictures of football managers/directors in compromising positions. Now that's return on investment.

I would bet both of my legs on the fact that we are paying his wages, via Southampton of course. Would have been FAR too much stick had Tony kept him here and on the pay roll, so a nice little agreement with Saints and a monthly deposit into their account and everyone's happy!

I've heard he's already been promised the Wales managers job on his 30th birthday on a 20 year contract.
