Does anyone know what the earliest images of the Victoria Ground are? Are there any images of when it was an oval?

There's nothing I can find online. I've seen pictures in Stoke City history books my dad has of the Vic with the old terraced Stoke End, the old barrel roofed Butler Street and even the old wooden roofed Boothen Stand. Whether there's any older pictures of the Boothen End before it was roofed, or the oval ground I dunno. It would have to be going back a bit because the Boothen was 1930s or so, and the old Stoke end must have been older than that as it was a proper old school cinder bank. Check out the YouTube link in my footer for Wally's video of my 1970s Vic Halflife map though!

the Sentinel occasionaly print a pre 1930's pic showing the Stoke End before it was made into a large terrace.
It had a little barrel roof over the middle. The Boothen Road (main stand) used to be quite diddy too.
when/if you go to the site now (quick before they build house/boxes on it) its amazing how they managed to fit such a relativly big stand on that side in the 60's.

There is a "View and order photos" link on the Sent website, but it blatantly doesn't work so I can't search it.

Anyone got any "under construction" photos circa 1877 - 78, would be interesting to see!

Ive found a picture of the old Sweetings Fields, which pre-date the Victoria Ground....bear with me though, as Im not great at links. Its a Game between Stoke and a squad of referees, selected by the FA. Can you imagine that happening now?????? Hers the site I got it from, might be of interest. www.mrsmith.dircon.co.uk/stokecity.net/stokecity.htm

Just out of interest, does anyone know where Sweetings field is/was? I might just do a bit of historical research.

I'm sure I've read that Sweetings field was the land on which the Victoria Hotel was built, and Stoke moved on to the Vic site which was donated/rented or bought off the Glebe of Stoke.
