The last time we went, all of the pubs were 'home' pubs and they wouldnt let you near them. Mind you, we went on the coach and so didnt get there until about 2 ish. Assume if you got there earlier, you could get into a few nice and easy.

Most of the pubs up towards Hillsborough are mostly 'Home Fans Only' and besides, they're generally a bit crap anyway...
Your best bet if you're going by train is to walk into town - straight out of the station entrance, up past the big stainless-steel wall water feature thing, across the road and into town (although this said, the old bill are usually on hand to scoop up any away fans and put them in 'The Howard' opposite the station, not a bad boozer but there is better in town).
West St. and Division St. have a load of pubs (Frog & Parrot is good) as well as a few takeaways/chippy etc.
Although it is miles away from Hillsborough, you can get the tram outside Sheffield University straight up to the ground for about £2.50 return (although you'll probably get away with not paying).
The Harley at the top of West St. is right next to the tram stop and is also a decent pub.
